5 Things I’m Loving This Cyber Monday

5 Things I’m Loving This Cyber Monday

by Jill November 28, 2016
written by Jill

The turkey is officially all gone at our house, thanks to a giant pot of turkey soup I made for dinner last night. (It’s just chicken soup, but with turkey because I am super creative.)  The trees are up. The toddler is sneaking candy canes every chance he gets. Joy! Merry! Bring on the holidays!

So while I’m in holiday prep/nesting mode, I thought I’d share a few things I’m loving right now that you might love, too.

1. First, the Santa’s Bag app is rocking my Christmas list right now, while also holding me accountable to a budget.

screen-shot-2016-11-27-at-10-43-34-pm

I love that it’s so easy to add gift ideas for each person, then mark them as purchased, wrapped, given, and even allows you to add a note about where it’s stored! How many gifts have I forgotten I’ve purchased until I randomly find them the next year? It’s embarrassing. Only thing to be careful about is there doesn’t seem to be a password function, so prying eyes may be able to easily access all this info if they know how to work their way around your phone.

2. Another great app that I’m checking a lot right now is the Slickdeals app (it’s also on Google Play). Even if you just check the “Frontpage” a few times a day, you’re going to find some really great deals. Be sure to read the comments. You can learn a lot about a deal and if it’s a good fit for what you need.  The biggest con to having this app is the urge to buy stuff just because it’s such a great sale. Related: I’m using an app that holds me to a budget this year.

3. We are about 3 weeks-ish out from baby’s arrival, so it’s this weird place where I don’t want to send out holiday cards before he comes. Plus, I don’t want to stress about birth announcements in addition to holiday cards. I’ve worked with Minted a lot over the years, and they are stepping in to save the day again, this time with combo holiday/birth announcement cards! Here are a few designs I’m currently considering…

minted_babyrabies_2

Ideally, I’ll have all my addresses updated in the Address Assistant by the time baby gets here. Then all I have to do is upload our pictures as soon as I have them, and Minted will print the cards AND the envelopes, complete with addresses. Recipient addressing is free! All we’ll have to do is stuff, seal, and stamp. I’m hoping I can pay the kids to do that part.

If you’re in the market for holiday cards still, or anything that Minted sells (and they sell SO much beautiful stuff), their Cyber Monday deal is 20% off EVERYTHING with code CM2016.

4. One of the best stocking stuffers I ever got for Scott was a gift card to Dollar Shave Club. They aren’t having any big CM deals that I can find, but if you’re as stumped as I am about what to put in your partner’s stocking (and this is also EXCELLENT for women, too- I exclusively use their razors), get you one of these.

5. Finally, if you want to get a head start on Giving Tuesday (which is tomorrow) and still want to take advantage of come Cyber Monday free shipping, check out the St. Jude Gift Book. You may remember I got to visit St. Jude Children’s Hospital earlier this year. It was an eye-opening experience in so many ways, and I truly think they are a worthy cause to support.

You can view their gift book here:

And order online here.

They have so much, from cute coffee mugs and t-shirts, to aprons and home decor. And a portion of every sale goes straight to St. Jude.

This Maya Angelou Inspirational Lantern is one of my very favorite pieces.

Okay, gotta go! To Target! Did you know you get 15% off storewide there today? (A few exclusions apply.) I saved SO much money yesterday, but forgot a few things we…er… need. Yeah, we need them. We need them more than I need to clean this house. Promise.

There’s A New Baby In Town- The Birth Announcement

by Jill September 29, 2013

New Baby In Town birth announcement design by Minted.com

So these went out this weekend. Finally. (Which is more than I can say for 2012’s Christmas Cards, which are still shrink-wrapped in my closet.)

The collision of awesome from Amy Columbus Photography and Minted.com, who provided the announcements for me, made these cards way too fantastic to not get into our family and friends’ mailboxes at some point this year.

Oh sure, the cards say “This summer there’s a new baby in town…” but I’m banking on people being so blinded by the cute oozing off the beautifully designed, thick cards that they won’t notice that little detail while sipping their pumpkin spice lattes.

Note to expecting parents choosing birth announcements- DON’T PICK ANYTHING SEASONAL.

But you know when you do want to pick something seasonal? For the holidays, which happen to be unbelievably close. No really. My brain can’t process that it’s not still July. It’s frozen in time before I had a baby, and every piece of paper I sign (which is a lot because I have a kid in school now), I accidentally date as July something.

Anyway, the holidays. They are coming. SOON.

And if you’re starting to think about holiday cards, Minted.com just launched their 2013 holiday collection. There are SO many options. Based on my experience with them, they are all super easy to customize, and the quality is top notch. I’m digging the postcards because they are less expensive and less waste, but no less adorable.

AND!!  Right now you can lock in a 20% discount on your cards by buying a holiday card credit, BUT IT EXPIRES MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH. (Yes, all caps yelling is required because BIG SALE DON’T MISS IT.)

They will also address the envelopes (or postcards) for you for free!

If I had taken them up on that, Lowell’s birth announcements would have gone out much sooner. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my ish together enough- meaning I couldn’t easily import addresses from random scraps of paper, old address books, and post it notes.

I’m happy to say this round of mass mailings spurred me to finally type in all those address to my digital contact book. So hopefully next time I order, the gorgeous cards won’t sit, waiting to be addressed for almost 2 months.

Though, if I’m being honest, I’m really quite proud of myself for getting these out before he turns a year old… or just shoving them in with his high school graduation announcements in 18 years. (You can’t say that wouldn’t be cool, right?)

Hallmark Personalized Announcements Review & Giveaway

by Jill April 12, 2011
written by Jill

You know what’s pretty much the picture of insanity? Committing yourself to sending out birth announcements right after, you know, having a baby. Like anyone really has the time or the brain cells to order the cards, address the envelopes, buy the stamps and get them in the mailbox all while dealing with a newborn who’s likely not sleeping and is eating around the clock.

And yet, it’s something I know many of us do, or at least intend to do before our new family additions turn 6 months old. I recall it being quite a headache after Kendall was born, but I was itching to share his picture and announcement with our circle of the world.

(I’m just going to admit, it’s possible *some* people got cards with bits of baby puke dried on them… possibly. We’ll just call them scratch and sniff announcements in FRESH! NEWBORN SMELL!)

This time around, it was much easier thanks to Hallmark.com. I was able to upload Leyna’s beautiful newborn pictures (taken by Jessica Marchetti Photography), customize an announcement, and order in less than 45 minutes.

I love that I was even able to add a bonus picture on the back!

Hallmark.com also offers the option of uploading your addresses from your computer’s address book to have the announcements sent directly to your recipients, but I will say that process was not easy for me, as a Mac user. It wasn’t a big deal, though, since I just stuffed the announcements in the envelope with our family New Years cards (because family holiday cards SOOOO weren’t happening last year).

The quality of the cards is great. The colors are vibrant and the paper is sturdy. And the prices are reasonable, too. The version I used above was only .99 a card since I ordered 80. Note that if you are having them mail the cards for you, you will obviously have to pay for postage. (However, right now they have a deal for free stamps on the cards they address for you until 6/19 with code FREESTAMPS)

Hallmark wants to give a $50 credit to one of you to use on Hallmark.com! All you have to do to enter is:

1. Tell me what you would like to announce- a baby, a birthday party, a graduation? (Don’t worry, we won’t hold you to it if you win.)

For additional entries:

2. Follow me on Twitter @BabyRabies
3. Like me on Facebook

I’ll choose the winner with Random.org Tuesday, April 19th. Remember I moderate comments, so if you don’t see yours right away, give me some time to approve it. Please enter a new comment for each entry. Good luck!

**Disclosure- Hallmark provided the birth announcements to me at no charge. I’m not paid for this review. All opinions are my own.
