“I was unfortunately incarcerated for a car accident for my first birth. I was 20 years old and terrified and heart broken that I couldn’t hold my mom’s hand or have my fiancé talking me through it, not to mention being shackled like a criminal… I expected to be treated differently but I can’t even put into words how kind the complete stranger of a nurse who helped me deliver was… I still wish I had gotten her name so I could thank her properly. After being treated like subhuman vermin for days, and being scared out of my mind, she comforted me and made me feel like a person and a MOTHER again. It was one of the scariest and happiest moments of my life and she made it that much easier. My heart goes out to those nurses.” – Lia
