Nobody Tell My Kids ABC Mouse Is Part Of My Homeschooling Plan

We’ve been homeschooling for a couple weeks, and I’d be lying if I said I have any idea what I’m doing.

Life is in flux right now. The house is on the market, we are in planning mode for the great RV road trip (where we will “roadschool” the kids), and I’m working my tail off to get business plans and insurance and all that jazz in place before we take off.

Luckily, we kicked it off the day of the total eclipse, so that gave us at least one cool experience so far. The rest of the time, though, it’s been hard to manufacture educational magic in our house while I try to accomplish everything that needs to get done so we can actually experience some real educational magic on the road.

So I’m relying pretty heavily on some workbooks and apps at the moment, and for Leyna and Lowell (1st  grade and preschool), we have been logging them into work on ABC Mouse every day.

I have to say, y’all, it’s saving my butt right now.

We’ve had ABC Mouse accounts for Leyna and Lowell for a few months. (They gifted us memberships as part of an affiliate relationship.) Over the summer, we took our time and worked through the assessments for each of them, a little bit at a time.

We still have a little bit to go with Lowell’s Preschool Assessment (hello 4 year old attention span), but we finished Leyna’s and it was awesome to see where she’s excelling and where we need to focus some extra attention.

 It’s not that I plug them into it all day, but when the kids are tired of doing worksheets or journaling and/or when I am on a deadline and really need them to do some work on their own for a bit, they are EXCITED to login to ABC Mouse. 

Leyna thinks the whole point is to earn a lot of tickets to collect as many virtual pets as possible. Okay, sure! Go earn some tickets for your pets, honey.

ABC Mouse isn’t just a homeschooling thing. It’s a great supplement to preschool, kinder, and first grade. There is an app or you can access it via a web browser on your personal computer.
