It’s Fine. We’re Excited. We’re Going To Be Fine.

by Jill May 11, 2016

“You can’t do that to me!” That was Scott’s reaction upon receiving the text that I was SUPER OMG SURPRISE pregnant with our 4th baby.

And my response back? “You are the one who did this TO ME!”

He was on day 3 or 4 of a 7 day trip, and was in all day meetings. He said he got the text and looked at it in front of a colleague who immediately figured out what it was and Scott turned bright red. OOPS! GUESS WE WERE BOTH SURPRISED AND CAUGHT OFF GUARD.

He called me about 15 minutes later during a break.

Beyond the initial shock, though, he’s been super thrilled.

4th baby hasn’t been completely off the table. We talked about it and I mostly agreed to it, but the plan was for it to be a later bonus baby. At the very least, it was another year away from consideration. I wanted some distance between this circus and the next.

So as for my reaction? I’m still warming up. I’ve done a lot of crying, but, of course, I’m hopeful and grateful, and I have 8 months to adjust. Everything will be fine.

Now the kids? This is the first time any of them have been old enough to really grasp what this means before seeing an actual baby, I think, so we decided to video their reaction. Brace yourselves! It’s…. nothing too exciting.

In case you couldn’t watch that with the sound on, Leyna wants it to be a girl, Kendall wants it to be a boy, and Lowell wants it to be a Peep. At least 2 of them will have each other to commiserate with.

Love it. Just found out I’m about 6 weeks with our surprise 3rd. Also kinda talked about it but also wanted a bigger gap from our very difficult 1 year old. If at all. Also cried. Also excited. I so feel ya!

We had the same reaction with our surprise #3. After the shock wore off, we were thrilled and excited 🙂

I am sorry Jill. I know that is a weird thing to say. I really want to say I am sorry. But I know that is one lucky babe in there. Of course it will all work out. OF COURSE it will. I understand your trepedation. Hang in there mama. Oh and stop having sex. LOL

Congratulations! Our 4th baby was a surprise, too! I can remember telling my husband the news and he just sat, in shock I think, in a rocking chair, not saying anything for about an hour. Now, our kids are teenagers/young adults (15, 17, 19, 23) and I can honestly tell you that our big, crazy, chaotic family of six is wonderful!

Oh my goodness I had the exact same reaction in October when I found out we were having #5. Two weeks before our wedding. I was in such a state that I thought thoughts I never thought I would think. Hubs dropped the ball on his vasectomy so I totally blamed him but it was both of us. I am not making that mistake again so I made his appointment for him before we end up with 6. You will be fine, but feeling crazy overwhelmed is totally ok for now.

Congratulations! and I have great empathy with you. I cried a lot with pregnancy 3 and 7, we were not planning on any more children, ever, with either of them, we were in weird stages of life that made having one more very complicated. With #3, it took me a day to make a complete about face and start pouring over baby name books. With 7, there were quite a few more tears, as I hadn’t slept more than 3 hours at a time for 3 years, and I couldn’t imagine what life was going to look like with 4 very small children and our bigger kids, and their busy lives, and continuing with the no sleeping! The past 5 years have been crazy and lovely, and I wouldn’t trade them or any of these lovely beings who call me Mama, but I wouldn’t mind a little sleep one of these days. Good luck and many blessings on this pregnancy and your lovely family.
