There are very few items that have made the cut as a “must have” for us with all 3 kids. The baby industry is always evolving, and creating better and better stuff. A huge perk of this job of mine is getting to try out the latest and greatest in baby gear each time I squeeze a new life out.
But if you ask my husband and me what our favorite baby/toddler/kid item of all time is, there’s a very strong chance we’ll both chime “Stokke Tripp Trapp” in unison. Actually, Scott would probably say, “that orange high chair thing” but we all know what he means.
The “orange high chair thing” has been a heavily-used item in our home since our oldest was big enough to join us at the dinner table 6 years ago.
It’s also been a heavily-photographed item, since one of the best/only places to get good pictures of mobile babies is when they’re locked down and distracted by food.
Kendall, our first
Leyna, our second
Since the chair grows with the kids from baby seat, to booster seat (and beyond), it’s never left our table. We just graduate one kid out of the booster seat version when the next kid is ready to start solids.
Lowell, our third
I love the ease and simplicity of this chair! It’s form & function all wrapped into one thing that will not wind up in the landfill in a few years. I am not exaggerating when I say I expect to still have this chair when I’m a grandparent.
Now, the “orange high chair thing” gets to graduate to the homework desk.
So crazy and full circle to see our oldest still sitting in this chair!
We were able to move the seat and footrest to the perfect positions for him to comfortably sit at his new perch. Looking forward to seeing him in this 10 years from now because that is completely within the realm of possibility.
We get to change things up a bit at the table with a new Stokke Tripp Trapp in Storm Grey, thanks to Lullaby Baby!
The Tripp Trapp is one of those items that I think a lot of people immediately pass up when they look at the price tag, in favor of something cheaper.
But in the long run, I truly feel like you will get SO much more for your money with this chair! Buy/register for fewer baby spoons and dishes and bibs and cups. I’m telling you, you don’t need many!
We have one baby plate. It’s 6 years old.
The Tripp Trapp is one of those items that just works, and will always work. It’s classic, and it’s smart.

I totally agree! We have also had our Tripp Trapp for 6+ years
We got the walnut so it fit with our furniture when we were in the condo where everything was open concept and exposed.
She fits at a grown up chair but her feet don’t reach the floor. The Tripp Trapp makes her much more comfortable.
Love it.
Yes, so great at that in-between stage.
We’ve had one for almost six years now too! We bought the white version and have found that the paint is starting to chip in the spots that have been scrubbed countless times. I’m excited about refinishing it though. Such a great piece!
Our orange one is wearing through a bit on some spots, but I think it gives it character. 🙂
Jill, thanks for the review!! I am always looking for new products that will last. Maybe we will be able to get one with our next little one, whenever that is…
On a side note, what is that nice little plate that you only have 1 of? Is it that divided one in one of the first pictures? I would love to know what it is and where to get one. ????
Thanks!!
Ashley
Yes! It’s by boon! http://www.amazon.com/Boon-Dish-Edgeless-Stayput-Multi/dp/B00BNUVKRS/ref=babrab-20
omg this looks so smart! and also, perfect for us apartment dwellers, the less STUFF the better! it is definitely much more sleek than that huge hunk of graco plastic we have (but it was free so i can’t complain too much)!
Free is always great… but if you ever get a chance to switch it out, I think you’d love the Tripp Trapp!
[…] Stokke Tripp TrappThis is the only high chair we’ve ever had, and I fully expect we will still have it when we have grandchildren. It’s easy to clean, impossible to destroy, and functions as a high chair, booster seat, and adult size chair. It’s a fantastic investment that you can feel confident will not wind up in a landfill anytime soon. You can read a more thorough review of it here. […]
