Carter’s Is Hipper Than I Remember – And a Giveaway

by Jill July 29, 2014
July 29, 2014

IMG_4726

This post is sponsored by Carter’s. If you like free kids clothes, maybe stick around to check out the $50 giveaway at the bottom and the 20% off coupon.

Note: I live in Texas, and that long sleeve shirt was on my daughter on a FREAKISH day that was below 80. Please don’t call the authorities on me. I promise they run around nearly naked with loads of sunblock on when it’s an oven outside.

Anyway, let’s talk kids clothes. Here’s how I feel- I like them to be cute, I NEVER like them to be white. (No white. No, no, no white.) I like them to be durable. I do not like them to be more expensive than my clothes, or to look like a 16 year old would wear them.

Unfortunately, this seems to limit my choices.

I’ll be honest. Carter’s hasn’t been a place we’ve frequented much the past few years. When Kendall was born 6 years ago, I got a lot of great staples from them (and still do, like the tops in this post), and their PJs are great, but I was turned off by how “cutesy” everything else looked.

I know, I’m super hard to please. I don’t want cutesy, and I don’t want too sophisticated.

But I noticed when I went into Carter’s after Lowell was born last year that the store was full of, basically, just what I was looking for. Maybe I’m off in my casual observation, but the brand seems to have evolved a bit, and is embracing more current trends.

Anyway, I started shopping there a little more, and was thrilled to pounce on them with my media kit at a recent blog conference. “You’d be a wonderful fit for my awesome audience!” I proclaimed. I hope I wasn’t far off on that assumption.

They sent me $50 to shop, and with the help of a coupon and a sale, I got all 3 new outfits.

IMG_4708

Uhm, that one on the left? TURNS ONE TOMORROW. The one on the right is going to drive him to his birthday party. And yes, okay, her shorts have a little white on them. LIVING ON THE EDGE.

IMG_4701

Matching. Shorts. I went there. Because Carter’s carries size 7-12 now! Also, did you know Lowell means little wolf? Well it does, so obviously we had to have that shirt.

The Carter’s team shared some fall styling notes with me, but I didn’t read them until I after put in our order. So when they said that patterns, camo, mis-matching, and “Tomboy Chic” are on-trend, I figured I’m some sort of kid-styling genius and not just an aimless mom-shopper who bought what looked cute.

But seriously, I would never peg these outfits as from Carter’s! I put a few on Polyvore to pin to the Carter’s Too Cute To Spook Pinterest board. I’m guest pinning there until August 1st!

Great outfits! Carters has always been my favorite kids clothing line!

Leigh Ann July 29, 2014 - 6:31 pm

I am SO glad they started carrying larger sizes. My twins were about to size out. You described my preferred style perfectly – not to cutsey, not too sophisticated.

Reply
Kristin July 29, 2014 - 6:39 pm

I agree! My twins were just about busting out of Carter’s sizes! I wish they would make the 4 packs of pjs in the bigger sizes though!

Reply
Ashley July 29, 2014 - 6:33 pm

I love Carter’s for almost everything! The clothes are so durable and take a lot of abuse from my 4 year old.

Reply
Jennifer K C July 29, 2014 - 6:38 pm

My kids wear a mix of everything, cute but classic modern, some vintage, and if it is cute, I will have them wear it! Thanks for the awesome giveaway. I love the grey and pinksweater/sweatshirt Leyna (sp? am I remembering her name correctly) is wearing, so cute! I need to go pick one up for my little lady!

Rebekah July 29, 2014 - 6:42 pm

I love love love Carter’s. They are my favorite children’s clothing brand.

Reply
Leslie July 29, 2014 - 6:42 pm

My kids wear tons of Carter’s stuff. It’s my fav. As for style, having three boys, I need easy clean, comfy, and sturdy. They tend to prefer elastic waisted pants and shorts but I loathe sweats. We find shorts that look like khaki or cargo shorts on the bottom with soft elastic waists.

Reply
Keshia July 29, 2014 - 6:43 pm

We love soft and durable kids clothes. Carter’s is one of our favorites.

Reply
Christina July 29, 2014 - 6:44 pm

I go with what fits over our cloth diapers, so comfy, stretchy, and roomy. Many times that ha s been Carter’s!

Reply
Sam Miller July 29, 2014 - 6:45 pm

Classic clothes are my favorite for my girls. I got so tired of monkeys and cats on EVERYTHING with my oldest. I donated all the cutesy stuff!

Reply
Lisa Humphries July 29, 2014 - 6:46 pm

For my 2.5 year old son, I am a fan of anything non-white, and durable. I’m not really into the whole “hipster kid”look, mostly because I don’t want my kid to be better dressed than I am. I just had a girl 2.5 weeks ago, and I am a fan of anything not all pink, and anything without glitter. Because glitter is the herpes of the craft world – once you get it, good luck getting rid of it!

Reply
Amanda Buccieri July 29, 2014 - 6:50 pm

I love the camo trend for fall!

Reply
Ashley Stauffer July 29, 2014 - 6:58 pm

I am loving the one liner graphic tees for my girls. Also the floral/chambray look. ALSO all the headwraps for them? Gimme.

Reply
Lauren July 29, 2014 - 7:02 pm

My three year old will only wear dresses, but I need them preschool friendly (lots of monkey bars and paint)

Reply

love these outfits!

Totally had a different view on Carter’s till I had my baby. . .now it’s my fave!!!

Reply
Lisa July 29, 2014 - 7:20 pm

My style of children’s clothes is “anything they’ll wear and can’t destroy after wearing once.”

Reply
Maren July 29, 2014 - 7:28 pm

I like Carter’s a lot, especially their pjs. I like that their clothes are nice and study and can handle a messy toddler pretty well. I like their casual shirts and bottoms; I’m not one to dress my kid too stylishly (or myself, for that matter).

Reply
Meghan V. July 29, 2014 - 7:35 pm

I like the classic look for my girl and anything durable for my boys.

Reply
Mary July 29, 2014 - 7:42 pm

Love Carter’s! They fit my long, skinny guy perfectly. And they have my two favorite styles – sleepers and pants with something on the butt, and little man clothes (polos, cargo shorts, etc).

Reply
Tammy July 29, 2014 - 7:43 pm

Carter’s stuff is just adorable!

Reply
kelly July 29, 2014 - 7:44 pm

I can always find something good in Carter’s. Quality is noticeably better than other places–I hate washing a really cute outfit and having it come out looking like crap after one wear. Carter’s clothes don’t have that issue, and I always seem to be able to fit my daughter into their stuff for longer. Also, they have so many sales and coupons that they’re actually affordable!

Reply
Elizabeth July 29, 2014 - 7:53 pm

My preferences are just about the same as yours. No baby blue teddy bears and no pint-sized American Eagle/Buckle lookalikes. And no, they should not cost more than my clothes. I love Carter’s. Can’t wait to see what they have for fall.

Reply
amanda July 29, 2014 - 8:01 pm

while i prefer carters, its usually old navy or clothes purchased by grandma. 🙂

Reply
Ashley Norman July 29, 2014 - 8:02 pm

I love Carter’s. Always have! I loves the cutesy outfits with pics on the butt and that I was able to get handsome “little man” outfits too.

Reply
Courtney July 29, 2014 - 8:03 pm

I agree with you, Jill – I want my kids’ clothes to be stylish, but not overboard and definitely NO mice dressed up like little baby dolls, etc. I love Carter’s clothing (especially all the new stuff for fall – the little girls stuff with the birds is right up my alley), especially because it seems to fit my skinny kids better than most brands. I would love to win this prize!

Reply
Emily H. July 29, 2014 - 8:07 pm

LOVE buying Carter’s clothes for my niece and nephews. Hoping for our own little one soon to deck out in these adorable clothes!

Reply
Lisa K. July 29, 2014 - 8:10 pm

Love Carter’s… Their clothes have lasted through so many kids in our family and they’re still soft and cute!

Reply
Brooke July 29, 2014 - 8:24 pm

Pretty much exactly what you stated! I like them to be a little hip, a little classic, a little rugged, and not have my 8 year old daughter look like a showgirl. My son is pretty rough, so his stuff has to wear well. I love Carter’s and Oshkosh, and I’m thrilled that they’ve started carrying bigger sizes!

Reply
Anne with an e July 29, 2014 - 8:42 pm

I love any little boy clothes that are little man things… button downs and grandpa cardigans especially. Carter’s always has good options, as does Baby Gap!

Reply
kirsten m July 29, 2014 - 8:42 pm

Carters is definitely my FAVORITE place to shop since my oldest was born 6 years ago. I especially love their styles for this fall…the birds and deer!

Reply
Carolyn July 29, 2014 - 9:22 pm

I like hipster or preppy clothes for my son. I dislike cargo shorts/pants or overalls.

Reply
sarabean July 29, 2014 - 9:28 pm

Carter’s still has the best PJs!

Reply
Lyndi July 29, 2014 - 9:35 pm

I like anything that doesn’t show stains and is easy to clean

Reply

My daughter just got a cute top with mini seahorses on it from Carter’s that she adores. I was only buying pajamas from Carter’s, but I’m going to definitely check out their other stuff now for fall.

I love that they have trendier clothes…i know my son is only 6 months old but I don’t want to dress him in pastels and zoo animals

Reply
Sheanayah Perkins July 29, 2014 - 10:33 pm

Comfort is key here. I have yet to put my 15 month old in jeans. I love carter’s pants (the legging ish ones)! Plus most of their things are super soft.

I like children’s clothes that are stylish, easy access for diaper changes, comfy, and affordable! Carter’s always meets all four of my “must-haves” when shopping for my munchkins.

Reply
Allison Mitchell July 29, 2014 - 10:58 pm

I need kids’ clothes to be comfortable and last at least a few seasons. My oldest two are very active little boys who play rough. I like their clothes to last long enough to pass down to the younger one, so durability is key.

I find that comfort is key for my three. I love that Carter’s is affordable, becoming more stylish, and almost everything matches. Because, let’s be real here… sometimes , with three kids, it’s a huge win to even find something in the same color family in their closets on busy days. Carter’s always gets a thumbs-up from me. 🙂

Reply
Liana Wolfe July 29, 2014 - 11:06 pm

For the most part, I definitely prefer Carter’s. Higher quality and durable clothes for my two boys. I tend to lean towards the comfortable, as well, and our toddler regularly requests “comfy pants” as wardrobe of choice, regardless of matching shirts. The only things we’re going to need to replace are pants… holes are forming as our little one is crawling EVERYWHERE.

Sweet! Thanks for the giveaway! I have two boys so I stay far far away from white too, but I love some cute neutral shorts and cute tshirts, that way they can always dress themselves and I won’t get upset that they don’t match 😉

We are huge fans of Carter’s because of their style and the fact that everything I buy there lasts and lasts. What I like about the style is that it’s not the cheesy baby stuff but its also not too grown up. It’s the perfect balance in my opinion.

I have a three year old boy, and I prefer stuff that doesn’t have characters or cheesy sayings all over it (which is hard to find for boys for some reason). I have been loving Carter’s lately as well!

I also love cute, but not so cursor it makes me want to vomit. And please don’t design clothes that makes my daughters look like miniature hookers. Carter’s has really improved the last few years!

We go with whatever fits the kids at the time. So while the oldest liked pink (when she got an opinion) the middle likes blue, and the baby will end up with both! It’s more about the current situation of the kids than anything. My middle is so small, but fearless. Absolutely. So she has a tiny but tough shirt, clearly football jersey type and made for boys.but it is SO HER!

My oldest wants the girly stuff, so she ends up with glitter (that doesn’t come off!), flowers, butterflies, etc.

Baby wears hand me downs or anything about being adorable!

I like kids’ clothes to look like kids’ clothes! Nothing too fancy, nothing with glitter (oh how I loathe glitter), nothing that I might find in the teen section, and nothing too expensive. Carters usually fits the bill for quality staples.

I’ve been obsessed with the little girls coral/mint/grey stuff – mini blues I think they were calling it. Totally agree on not wanting to dress my 9 m/o as a teen (do infants need spaghetti straps, even?), but I also hate anything that looks like it’s just generic baby. Carter’s has been hitting it out of the park for me with their stuff lately – and love the sales and coupons they have had lately!

good to know! I’m a big fan of hand me downs (from my first child and from my sister in law- she has 3 boys). It is hard to find cute boy clothes but look there they are ! I too used to think Carter’s was too cute-sy, and looked mostly to another brand (won’t name here) that I could only afford on clearance and hand me downs because they were fun kids clothes and did not have puppy dogs or some other gaggingly cute cartoon on them. they opened store near me recently, I may need to go soon!

Lemme tell you, that with a 6 yr old who feels he is a bike riding ninja & a two year old that I’m pretty sure can turn any pair of leggings paired with a sharpie Into a tattoo’s mans dream; I love the durability. I love Carters. I feel like their clothes are kid & play friendly but still more put together than just a t-shirt and shorts.

Carters always fits our kids well. Our 4 year old chooses his own clothes at this point and 2 year old daughter will wear anything without glitter (her choice, not ours).

That little pink dress is the cutest! And I love the ideas for summer into fall pairings. We have crazy weather up here in the PNW, and that’s really helpful 🙂

My favorite style of clothing for my son is the laid back look. A simple t-shirt and jeans can’t be beat!

carters has been a staple of my kids since birth! If I need a complete outfit I can walk into carters and walk out without A) breaking the bank B)not requiring too much brain power to try to match shirts and shorts. easy and economical! It’s like music to a mommy’s ears!

I’m pretty sure my daughter NEEDS that pink bird dress. I can almost always find things that I love at Carters for both of my kids. Their tees for boys are cool, not precious, and really good quality. I never experience any shrink issues with them at all.

I love Carters! My kids are really hard on their clothes, and I’ve always found Carters washes the best out of everything we have. I like that the young boys clothes keep getting cuter and less cutesy.
