8 Days With Lowell

::sits on pillow, dusts off blog, adjusts breast pads::

Lowell was born 8 days ago. Life is lovely and chaotic all at once. I’m ridiculously overwhelmed and happy all at once. I’m also getting my postpartum ass kicked by another horrific postpartum rash and some super sore and engorged boobs to go with it.

Here are some pictures. I have no energy for many words. Though I promise the birth story is coming soon.

He’s already so much bigger than this! Fresh from the womb here, not even 24 hours old.

We took pacis with us to the hospital. Scandalous! He’s been a comfort sucker (like his sister) from the beginning. Of course, I was and have been careful to only offer it to him after he eats. I’m pretty sure he was a thumb sucker in utero, based on the feeling of him punching me in the bladder all day in there.

IMG_4896 IMG_4900I love this little sleep sack I bought for his coming home outfit (from BabyPint on Etsy). I packed a pink bow to attach to the hat if he was a she. It was adorable and snuggly, and then he peed all over it and we had to change him into a Target sleeper to actually bring him home in.

This girl suddenly grew to the size of a 12 year old the first night we were home.

First family morning, piling into the bed.

Lowell is a BIG fan of the mamaRoo. Huge. He’ll sleep for hours in it. Leyna’s reaction to seeing him in it the first time was priceless. Her reactions to a lot of things with him are priceless. She’s pretty much the cutest big sister ever.

Aunt Kelly came up the week before Lowell was born (because oddly? I was afraid I’d go early LOLOLOLOHAHAHA). Then she had to go home a couple days before he made his appearance. Luckily, she kindly braved the drive up 35 one more time to meet him (and clean my dishes and get my other kids dressed and fed).

I’ve been spending a lot of time in our room, on our bed, with my boobs hanging out. I have no idea where to put any of his tiny clothes, and it looks like the laundry threw up Β in there.

Oh well.

He’s fitting right in, even hanging on his first family WiiU game night already.

He’s… different, this one. Kendall and Leyna seemed so similar in so many ways (and they still do). Lowell can resemble each of them from time to time, but there’s already something about his temperament… his being. He’s his own little person, for sure.

And I’m loving getting to know him.

It might be a while before I’m back here, but you can find me on Instagram a lot lately. I’m addicted to sharing all the little moments we’re living right now. Like this.

  1. 1. I died a little at that first photo of L and Scott. But THEN….I died a thousand more deaths at all the other cuteness!!!!!! I CAN’T have another one!!!! Stop with the CUTE!

  2. 1) Yay for checking in and pictures and letting us know you’re doing okay! He’s SO beautiful. And YOU look gorgeous. Love the breast feeding pic.
    2) Martha Stewart cube storage has saved the day for us with baby clothes, since #3 is living in our room.
    3) Good luck with the rash. Eeek.

  3. Congratulations to you and your family! He’s so darling he’s making my overies cry even though with my 2 year old and 4 month baby I have more than enough on my plate… πŸ˜€ Congrats again! I hope you are having lots of delicious baby cuddles!

I love all my babies, but there was something about #3 (I also have boy, girl, boy) that was different. A sort of peace with him, I let so much go just to enjoy him. PS…we used those big plastic drawers you can stack (rubbermaid/sterlite or something) in our closet for #3’s stuff.

  5. Your room there? Exactly how mine looked the first month {ok, or two} after baby came. That’s just newborn life πŸ™‚ Love the gorgeous photos! If we have a third I’ve decided I will not have another baby without a MamaRoo, I’ve heard so many praises over the past two years, I MUST have one. Even if I have to buy it off of craigslist lol.

You make pretty babies Jill πŸ™‚

    • Thank you! That mamaRoo has been amazing. We had the original version with Leyna and she mostly liked it, but Lowell LOVES this newer one (it moves faster than the original).

  6. He is just precious! I’m so glad he is finally here, it sounded like your last few weeks of pregnancy really sucked!

  7. Great pics, thanks for sharing! Amazing how bringing home the new baby makes the siblings look GIANT! ha!
Also, it’s a good thing my husband got the snippy snip, because these pics make me think for one crazy second that I could do it again, just for that baby phase once more. That new love that is instataneously there and huge and grows every minute. Love it! Congrats to your beautful family!

  8. Jackie Blackburn Alldredge on

My #3 was quite different as well. .. She still is at 17 years old. She’s naturally beautiful, independently her own loner following no one else’s foot steps and quite tall – 6′ 1″. I had girl boy girl.
    Congrats Jill!

  9. Bobbie Jo Doucette on

Love love love! Amazing blog in my eyes. Pictures are more than words. I cried off and on when I had my last one could not of done that.

  10. Beautiful! I remember when I had babies and my other little ones suddenly looked like giants. My babies are not babies anymore (12, 15, 17, and 20). I really miss having a tiny baby to love on. Take care!

  11. Hnnnnnn, right in the ovaries!

Seriously, he’s gorgeous (I can still use that, he doesn’t know!) and you guys should be so so proud (I’m sure you are). He and Scott are really, really cute together. Make a great duo! I am totally stealing that couch-pillow position someday.

  12. Bunmi Laditan on

I know you’re thrilled not to be pregnancy anymore. I get the rash- I’m two month post partum and still have leg rashes (hormonal, I believe). He’s so sweet. And yes, my 3-year old looks like a giant now, too. Happens instantly. Kinda sad!! Caught me off guard. Enjoy your baby mooooon!

  13. Thanks for all the sweet words! We are all really in love with him, especially the kids. Kendall says several times a day, “I really love baby Lowell!” It’s the sweetest.

  14. Hi Jill!! I’m new to reading your blog post and following you on FB and IG! HA!! I have truly loved reading your everyday life, no reservations, on REAL everyday life with kids!! Its not all koolaide and crayons!! Ha!! I just wanted to say thank you for being real!! Your family is beautiful!! Wishing you all the best!!
