ALREADY? I know, I know, but hear me out. It’s less than 6 months away.
My baby is closer to turning one than to the day she was born. Crazy. Just crazy. (OH! And as of 3 hours ago, she has her first tooth!)
And so, since the last half of the year is most definitely the crazier half, always, I know I need to start planning for things like the holidays and a very special little girl’s first birthday. Don’t worry, I’m not to the psychotic stage of Party Planning Psychosis yet. Just in the planning stage, just collecting and pinning inspiration pictures (and putting them on their very own 1st birthday inspiration board).
I fell in love with rainbow themed parties when I blogged this on over at Party Like a Kid. Now, I think I would love to do a rainbow theme in the dead of winter, December 28th, because why not do something so cheerful and bright then? Of course, things could always change, and my ideas will evolve, but I’m toying with rainbow colors on lots of white, incorporating buttons somehow (they’re about as trendy on Pinterest right now as mason jars, so I may be annoyed by them come the end of the year… or maybe I’ll have mason jars full of buttons?).
I’ve always loved those multicolored layered cakes, but who am I kidding? I suck at making cakes. These cookies? I can do.

Heck, I may even try them this summer. I think Kendall will love them!
Have any other rainbow, winter, button-y ideas for me?
I think I have a couple people who posted last week still waiting for Pinterest invites. I’m off to take care of them now. If you’d like one, go ahead and leave your email in the comment section below. And thanks to those of you who’ve been helping me send everyone an invite/ Happy pinning!

Oooh I know! Go get some FREE paint samples and use them as paper in your crafts. So easy, and best of all FREE!!! Because it doesn’t count as stealing if you, like, want it.
My love for you grows deeper.
You are doing a similar theme to what I plan for my daughter’s 2nd in September. I am doing a crayon theme but plan to do rainbow cupcakes (super easy to do) with flood icing on top and food colouring drawings on top. You will have so many options and I think a Rainbow theme in winter is fantastic!
Not with your theme, but could be incorporated. I always enjoy seeing pictures from the first year throughout the party. For my son, I glued them on the backs of firetruck invites (it was a firetruck theme since Daddy is a Fire Captain) & hung them from the celing with ribbons. Then wrote how old he was next to each picture
I really like the rainbow theme! My daughter was born just one day before yours and I’ve been struggling to find a theme I really *love*. I’ve been spending more time on Pinterest than I’d like to admit… 😉
I was JUST saying tonight that now that the kiddo is 6 months, it’s time to start party planning! I was thinking a “cute as a button” theme, and am starting my board tonight on pinterest. maybe we’ll get some inspiration from one another. 🙂
Love the theme! My girl’s 1st bday party featured lots of shamrocks & rainbows (St. Patrick’s Day baby). I, too, had my heart set on making that gorgeous rainbow cake, but I ended up doing a version with the colors poured and baked together (not separated by icing). It was way easier, but still got lots of ooohs and aaahs when I cut into it.
looooove the rainbow idea … so happy! would love a pinterest invite please! sandra0530@hotmail.com thank you!
Love the idea, but just a word of advice from the mommy of another almost-Christmas-baby. Keep it simple! Everything was so crazy last year doing Christmas Eve, Christmas, and her birthday all in like a 72 hour period that I didn’t enjoy any of it like I wished I would. I think we over-complicated our daughter’s first birthday. It was great, it just was probably too much given the holidays that surround it. No matter what you do, I’m sure it will be awesome!
Good advice 🙂 I’m sure it will be hard for me to stick to, but I’ll do my best to remember it.
Ha ha, it will be hard for me to remember on birthday #2 this year, but I am going to try as well!
Looks like a great idea. I say go against the grain. My birthday is Dec 6 and I always always had a cake with santa or a Christmas tree on it 🙂
But one of the traditions I loved the most was my parents put my gifts under the tree on my birthday. So it was like December was the BEST MONTH EVER!
I love the idea of transforming the Christmas Tree into a Birthday Tree. I stole it from The Mom Pledge’s Elizabeth.
I read all the time, but never comment. My curiosity has gotten the best of me now, though. I would love an invite. jamie7180@hotmail.com Thanks!
We did a Winter ONE-derland. Not sure how that would incorporate with rainbows but hey…and I would love an invite ciara.foust@yahoo.com.
i love the rainbow theme! but i wouldnt want to change any nappies after those rainbow biscuits!
OOOOOOOOH! you could dress her up as Rainbow Brite!!!!!! you could dress her Kendall up as Buddy Blue, your hubby could be Red Butler and you could be LaLa Orange! you could decorate withe Rainbows and Sprites!!!
I think of Rainbow Brite too when I see all those rainbow party favors. What could be more perfect for a little girl birthday?
You could do a rainbow colored button flower bouquet as a centerpiece. I love love love the way these look! So whimsical! Here’s a link to a tutorial:

There was a birthday party article in this month’s parenting {early years} – they had a whole page of wintery ideas, including cute snowflake invitations with buttons on them… Mommy will clip the article and send it to you if you email us your address. 🙂
I’m finally going to give in to Pinterest. If you could send me an invite, that would be great!

Love your blog! The baby rabies is definitely contagious.
I would love an invite. ARemick@SECH.org
I don’t know if it is what you would want but my cousin did button bouquets for her wedding. Seen here: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BV33aaKk0_U/S_F0V3UOtRI/AAAAAAAAV_I/iomMyYR9K84/s512/DSC_0748.jpg
I could find out where she got the idea from if you want. You could do small ones and then use them later in her room or something?
I think you could do rainbow crayons as party favors with several 8-packs. You know, the kind that are baked together?
I can see this in my head and now I have the urge to bake some crayons.
Love the idea of rainbows in winter… it will bring some much needed colour into the season! 🙂
And I would L-O-V-E a pinterest invite… raineshower at gmail dot com.
