Sometimes a girl just needs a margarita

by Jill May 22, 2010
May 22, 2010

It’s been a long day, at the end of a long week. Frankly, it’s been a long few weeks. The heat is here, summer is upon us, and this girl wants a margarita. This girl NEEDS a margarita. Just something citrusy and tangy, tart and sweet, on the rocks with salt. Something that says relax, have a drink, enjoy the season.

Turns out, I’m not the only pregnant gal to feel this urge. My friend Molly posted her craving for a virgin margarita on her Facebook and a friend of hers chimed in with this fantastic, super simple recipe for a non-alcoholic beer margarita. That was this afternoon. Hours later I sent Scott to Kroger to pick up the ingredients and I’m sipping one as I type this. Okay, the tequila is obviously missing, but the thought of tequila really makes me want to hurl, so all the better. Even for all it’s faults (like missing the ALCOHOL), it’s fantastic.

Ingredients:

Non-alcoholic beer (like O’douls)
Limeade
Salt
Lime

In a cup, add crushed ice, top with a little bit of limeade, and then about double that amount of beer. These are rough calculations here, based on what I figured out tastes best to me. Play with the ratio to see what works best for you.

Rim your glass with a lime wedge, dip in a shallow plate of salt, pour your margarita in, top with more fresh lime juice, enjoy!

Cheers! Hope you’re having a great weekend.

While I was in the hospital having my daughter, one of the OB nurses brought me an OB cocktail. It’s cranberry juice, sprite and pineapple juice and is fantastic. It also would handle rum very well.

I wanted wine while I was pregnant, but when I actually was far enough along to have a tiny glass, it tasted awful.

So making this. It just looks so good…even with the missing tequila.

Yep, this is genius. And since I’ve been pregnant most of the last two years and probably will be for most of the next two years (we’re planning a big family…) I’m going to print this out! 🙂

Ummm, BRILLIANT!! With one month left of this pregnancy and the sudden hot and humid weather we’re experiencing in MN, I’m totally going to have to give this a try. I have been DYING for a margarita!

Okay…I’ve been dying for just about any alcohol beverage…

That looks so good. I still have 17 weeks to go and a nice refreshing drink like that (minus the alcohol) is what I’ve been craving! Yum! Thanks!

Since we just went over the 90-degree mark in St. Louis, a margarita sounds amazing. Except for the tequila part. Bleck. Can’t wait to give this a try!

Dog. Gone. Fantastic! I loves me some margaritas, but it’s not always appropriate to get liquored up. I’m also trying to stay off the sauce now that I’m on call for doula work. I’d hate to get that “Honey, it’s time” phone call after a big ass glass o’ tequila!

First off: God Bless you Secret Mommy. I commend you being pregnant all those times AND having small children! You are a champ!!! Is your name Michele Duggar???
Back to Jill: That drink looked sooo good, I had to make one.. A REAL one, sorry (not preggo here 🙂 I had a Margarita w/ Vodka because I did not have Tequila 🙁 It was not half bad. At least you can enjoy the summer… cool off and pretend your drunk!!! LOL Have fun!!!

When I was newly pregnant with my first, I craved Caesars… like hardcore.

So, I made myself virgin ones as well… but they weren’t the same. BUT, it’s a good thing I did the virgin route, because I would drink 3 and 4 of them in a row… haha

And I wish I could find that Limeade in the grocery stores here… my drink when I’m not preggo is Gin and Limeade, but the only store that I found it at stopped carrying it last year. 🙁

Glad you found an alternative!

🙂

I’m SO going to have to try that! It should satisfy my margarita craving, and maybe even my beer craving…

No, I was never a beer drinker before. Occasionally I might have indulged in one, but it wasn’t my favorite beverage. But of course, now that I’m 28 weeks pregnant – I’ve been craving an ice cold beer for MONTHS. LOL
