Rules, rules, rules
Oh yes, there are rules.
1. All Elf pictures must be PG-13 or less rated. Here is a description of what the movie ratings mean from the Motion Picture Association of America. Just use your best judgement here, okay? We’re all adults, and this contest is not designed for kids to view, but please keep it free of blatant violence, hate and anything graphic and overtly sexual.
2. The submission must be a still photograph of an elf. It doesn’t have to be *the* Elf On The Shelf. You can make your own elf, that’s fine. No videos or animations. (Need help making your elf more pose-able? Check out this awesome tutorial from Dirty Diaper Laundry on how to make your elf bendy and grippy.)
3. Your link must be to a blog that is publicly viewable. Please no links back to Facebook. If you don’t have a blog, you can easily set up a Tumblr blog for free. It’s really very simple. The only entry you have to have on it is your Elf picture. You can shut it down after the contest if you’d like.
4. Your blog post must include a link back to this post. Here’s the permalink http://www.babyrabies.com/2011/12/inappropriate-elf-contest/
5. You must use the linky tools on this post to link up. If you just leave a link in the comments, that will not count, and I will not be able to enter it into linky tools for you. If you have trouble doing this, then leave a question in the comments of the post.
6. One entry per blog. You can include more than one photo in your entry, but you have to specify ONE that will be judged. Please note in your post which one that is.
How it works
Everyone has until Sunday, December 11th at midnight CST to link up. That should give you some time to procure your elf, stage the scene and get things set up. After that, voting will begin. People can vote for your entry by “liking” your link from this page. If you don’t have your link up by then, you can still link up anytime between now and when voting ends on Tuesday, December 20th at midnight CST. You’ll just have less time than those who were linked up before voting began to get votes. I’m okay with that if you are.
Vote fairly. Listen, if this shit gets crazy and people are doing unfair things, I’m going to get pissed. And then I’ll disqualify people. Yes, ask all your friends to vote for you, ask them every day if you’d like. Ask them on Facebook and Twitter and on your blog (or not, whatever your style is). But rigging any sort of multiple IP voting scheme or starting a smear campaign against someone to skew the votes is not cool, and I will send Inappropriate Elf to surprise you in your shower.
Basically, I have the right to disqualify anyone I think is being dishonest.
You don’t have to get a ton of votes to win, though. 70% of the top 10 will be chosen by me.
Voting by the general public ends Tuesday, December 20th at midnight CST. After that, THE TOP 3 based on votes and 7 selected by me will be sent on to a panel of guest judges. I’m still confirming who all will be on there, but rest assured it’s a group of internet rock stars who know funny when they see it.
The judges will each submit one vote for their favorite. The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve in a post with photos from the top 10 included, and a link back to each of the top 10′s blogs. (So, you need to be okay with me putting your picture up over here if you make it to the top 10, with credit back to you, of course.)

The winner of the iPad2 can be from anywhere in the world, but if your shipping address is outside of the US, you may be responsible for excess shipping fees.

I have tried to keep this as fair and beneficial to all parties involved as I possibly can. I literally stressed all day about how to run this. This was the best solution I could come up with.
