This is a preview from my new book, 50 Things to Do Before You Deliver: The First Time Moms Pregnancy Guide. Available on Amazon!

Babies make you hungry, but for most new moms, it’s hard to find time to sit down to three hot meals a day. Snacks are going to become life sustaining, and it’s important that you’re able to eat them with one hand! Why? Because you’re not going to want to put your beautiful baby down, or they won’t want you to put them down. Either way, lots of holding is going to happen, and you need at least one arm and hand for that.

Before baby arrives, start stocking your pantry and refrigerator with groceries for easy one-handed snacks and meals! Here are a few of my favorite postpartum foods.

One-Handed Food You Can Eat While Holding Your New Baby

Peanut Butter Pancake Tacos

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen pancakes
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 banana, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Heat up the pancakes, then spread a generous layer of peanut butter on top of each.
  2. Top with the sliced bananas and mini chocolate chips. Fold in half, like a taco.

Egg & Veggie Burritos

Ingredients

  • 1 flour tortilla
  • 2 eggs, scrambled
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, sautéed until wilted
  • 2 slices roasted red peppers
  • 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese (see tip)

Directions

  1. Put the tortilla on a plate. Top with the scrambled eggs.
  2. Add the spinach and roasted red peppers, and sprinkle with the goat cheese crumbles. Fold into a burrito.

Tip: Some moms choose to limit their dairy intake while breastfeeding, especially during the first couple of months, in case their baby is lactose intolerant. Goat cheese doesn’t have the same proteins as cow’s milk, so it can be a good substitute when you’re missing Cheddar.

  • 6 to 12 slices deli ham
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup fresh spinach (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 400?. Coat the cups of a muffin pan with baking spray. Press 1 slice of ham into each muffin cup (2 slices if very thin).
  2. Crack 1 egg into each cup. Top with the fresh spinach (if using).
  3. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the eggs are as done as you’d like them. Sprinkle with the shredded cheese.
  4. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then use a butter knife to loosen each cup and pop the ham and egg cups out of the muffin tin.

  • We're all doing the best we can with what we have. Pass it on when you see another mom struggling. We could also use an ounce of encouragement.
  • We tried #BuildABear Pay Your Age Day this morning and that wound up being a big NOPE (more in my stories!). That’s ok. We’ll settle for naps and another visit to the pool this evening.
  • Come 👏🏻 On👏🏻 Dads, do you feel the same? Makes us both so mad.
  • This one turns FIVE this month! Lately he’s gotten into Minecraft, which I kinda love because he’s bonding with his big sibs over it, but for a while it looked like it was taking over his passion for Mighty Machines (and all things construction and digging in the dirt) and that broke my heart because I’m not ready for this little boy to not be in love with those things anymore. The kids took a 2 week screen break (much needed and not nearly as awful as I thought it would be) and Lowell found his diggers and his dump truck again. All is right in the world now. I just want him to play with them forever, is that too much to hope for? 😌💙🚜 (Also, how cool is his Roadschool shirt from @hmschld ?! 💖) #loloyolo

  • Happy 4th to you! May your neighbors abide by all city ordinances or at the very least only wake your baby once with their illegal fireworks. 🇺🇸
  • Let's hear it! 😭😭😭
  • He’s very good at taking off his socks and shoes and making them disappear. I think he likes it when people look at us like negligent parents. 🙄😆
