After the whirlwind and beat-down that was this month, somehow Christmas managed to come and pass and we had just enough of our ish together to pull it off (thanks largely to the shopping I did from my phone in the car on Black Friday as we drove home from New Mexico).
But there was a moment, sometime around Christmas Eve, when I realized my baby was turning 2 shortly after, and I hadn’t done a thing for her.
It was exactly what I was afraid would happen someday with my Christmas-ish baby. That the chaos of the holiday season would eclipse her special day.
I know I have valid excuses this year, and I know she’s only 2, but it’s a habit I’m not willing to let myself slip into.
Somehow I managed to pull it together for her celebration today. It wasn’t anything big or fancy, but there were “Kat Kat” balloons and cake, and a tricycle. And there were smiles and laughter. And there were pictures.
Happy 2nd birthday, little Leyna bug. Thanks for giving me a reason to pause this time of year, and giving me a million reasons to smile every day.

So sweet.
I love that family picture! What a wonderful captured moment.
I love these pictures. Her smile is so sweet and she looks like she’s on top of the world <3
She doesn’t look too happy that brother is crashing in on her party cake 😉 I’m a near Christmas baby, too and trust me.. she’ll learn quickly to make sure people know that it’s two separate holidays.
Leyna is just a little younger than m daughter, which is probably why I think she’s such a cutie. Happy Birthday Leyna!
@babyrabies I forgot our babies have the same birthday.
Awww…perfect. Sometimes (often times?) the best birthdays are the ones we stress about and plan for the least. Hope you are feeling a little better…if you’re not, you did a good job hiding it for the sake of your sweet baby girl and her birthday. Happy Birthday, Leyna!
It looks like a fabulous little second birthday party. She is such a beautiful little girl. I can hardly believe she’s two already!
ooooh Jill. I am just moved to tears by this. This is too precious. What a gem you have shared with us today. You did a perfect job.
Ahh! The dainty pinky finger when she is eating her cake and the smile when her daddy is giving her a kiss. I die. She is just precious.
I can almost hear her giggle when Daddy goes “snerk” in her ear. Good job, Mommy, she is a darling wee girl!
@babyrabies my youngest also turns 2 today 12/29! Happy Birth Day to you and your babe.
Happy Birthday, Leyna! 🙂
What a sweetheart! Happy second birthday, Leyna!
That second picture, of the joy on her face for her birthday cake, is absolutely adorable.
She looks so much like you! Such a cutie.
So sweet. They grow so fast, don’t they? You have a beautiful family:)
I’m dying to know where that adorable dress is from!!
She is beautiful. Looks like she had a fabulous birthday party.
Love the pictures. This post really captures all that is special about birthdays. Our little ones grow so fast and it is hard to sometimes stop and take stock of where they are. Beautiful post. Kerrie http://www.familyfoodandtravel.com
You have become such an amazing photographer! So fun to watch the progress. Such an inspiration. My 1 year anniversary with clickin moms is New Year’s Eve!!
The one of Leyna, Scott and the cake just made my ovaries spontaneously combust (in a good way) – your photos are gorgeous:)
You certainly had reason to have slacked this year, but as a Christmas-time baby myself, I’m so glad you didn’t! Everybody deserves a birthday! 🙂 I’m 27 now and my mom still made all Christmas prep stop for a birthday dinner that she made the whole family attend. My birthday is the only one still strictly enforced for attendance because she was always SO conscious of how much Christmas babies get gypped! I love her for that.
Your little girl is so adorable! Seriously, just munchable!!!!
[…] her 2nd birthday, there really wasn’t much of a celebration beyond that bit of a fuss. Though I blame that […]
