I signed up for a year-long photo challenge with fellow Clickin’ Moms members where each month we post one “The Way I See” picture on an assigned topic. January was New Beginnings.

I had a plan all along to get a picture of Leyna walking, beginning her journey into toddlerhood.

The problem? Now that she’s walking, she’s much harder to photograph, especially since she takes off for my camera every time she sees it (and my phone, and my wallet, and my credit cards).

I set her in the beautiful morning light of our living room this morning for one last attempt, and yet again, she wouldn’t cooperate and was more interested in French kissing my camera lens (how cute are open mouth baby kisses?). I said no, took the camera away, and an epic tantrum ensued. The was no soothing her, no distracting, she banged her head, hands and feet against the floor.

Sooo…. as I was saying… The Way I See New Beginnings? How’s this for the beginning of toddlerhood? A pretty good description, I think.

This was processed with Emma Wood Photography’s Chocolate Drama B&W preset for Lightroom. I freaking LOVE it. I’m a little obsessed with it, actually, and she has it on her blog as a FREE download. I mean, how awesome is that? Seriously, if you have Lightroom, you should head over and download it. Be sure to tell her thank you and that I sent you!

Now I’m passing the link torch onto Clickin’ Mom Amanda. Head over to see how she views new beginnings!

  1. Tantrum aside, that is a gorgeous photo. I am getting jealous of all these lightroom techniques. I need to buy it but it’s just not in the budget right now. SAD FACE.

  2. I love the photo. LOVE! I’m hoping I can make a case to get a fancy pants camera and get back into photography as LWM takes off more. (I have a DSLR from college. It uses film. Remember that?) And the tantrum, please tell me that you giggle when your kids get that tantrum cry face. Because sometimes, the hubs and I can’t help but giggle. It doesn’t help the tantrum situation, but man, toddlers are funny, even when they’re not trying to be.

  3. such a great moment to capture … even if she’s lost it! My daughter (15 mo) seems to think she is 5. Or at least 2, like her older brothers. She doesn’t understand when she can’t have certain things, and when I offer her a substitute, she will either a) grab it from me and throw it fiercely in the other direction, or b) simple bat it out of my hand with precision I didn’t think a toddler could master.

The drama is already evident, and I think I’m in trouble!

  4. What a sweet heart!! Great way to start off your new year with Toddler-hood. It’s going to be fun and exciting..and sometimes frustrating and scary. Good luck and enjoy your little guy!!

  • I always keep teething oil in my bag these days. He has FOUR top teeth trying to come through. 😫I try not to stick dirty fingers in his mouth, especially right after I pump gas. 🤢So I also keep some @handzies soap and water wipes with me. #inmypurse
  • On our way to get the other three. We really loved spoiling Wallace this week and living that one baby life for a bit. I think he's bored of us now, though.
  • So thankful for my mom who has the energy and patience to not only watch these three but to take them to the beach all by herself. Like, that's not even something I'd attempt. She's such a badass.
  • Oh yes we did turn this #joovyspoon into a #stlblues mobile! I'm in love with the idea of personalizing one of our fav baby things this way! Must confess it was Scott's idea, but I ran with it and came up with some other ideas in today's blog post. PLUS!!! @joovy is giving away one Spoon walker (US only). Link in bio!
  • Managed to distract him from his fever for a bit with some snacks and a spoon in the Nook highchair @joovy sent. It folds up super compact so I'm hopeful it will work well in the RV. #joovynook
  • Of course he'd get his first fever the week we sent the other three to NaNa's and planned to be super productive. #babydontcare we have a house to sell. Snuggles come first. ❤
  • Arlo grew a little.
  • Another day, another house, another nap. Nothing, not even NaNa, can keep him from his love for sleep from 3-5 pm. #loloyolo
