I signed up for a year-long photo challenge with fellow Clickin’ Moms members where each month we post one “The Way I See” picture on an assigned topic. January was New Beginnings.

I had a plan all along to get a picture of Leyna walking, beginning her journey into toddlerhood.

The problem? Now that she’s walking, she’s much harder to photograph, especially since she takes off for my camera every time she sees it (and my phone, and my wallet, and my credit cards).

I set her in the beautiful morning light of our living room this morning for one last attempt, and yet again, she wouldn’t cooperate and was more interested in French kissing my camera lens (how cute are open mouth baby kisses?). I said no, took the camera away, and an epic tantrum ensued. The was no soothing her, no distracting, she banged her head, hands and feet against the floor.

Sooo…. as I was saying… The Way I See New Beginnings? How’s this for the beginning of toddlerhood? A pretty good description, I think.

This was processed with Emma Wood Photography’s Chocolate Drama B&W preset for Lightroom. I freaking LOVE it. I’m a little obsessed with it, actually, and she has it on her blog as a FREE download. I mean, how awesome is that? Seriously, if you have Lightroom, you should head over and download it. Be sure to tell her thank you and that I sent you!

Now I’m passing the link torch onto Clickin’ Mom Amanda. Head over to see how she views new beginnings!

  1. Tantrum aside, that is a gorgeous photo. I am getting jealous of all these lightroom techniques. I need to buy it but it’s just not in the budget right now. SAD FACE.

  2. I love the photo. LOVE! I’m hoping I can make a case to get a fancy pants camera and get back into photography as LWM takes off more. (I have a DSLR from college. It uses film. Remember that?) And the tantrum, please tell me that you giggle when your kids get that tantrum cry face. Because sometimes, the hubs and I can’t help but giggle. It doesn’t help the tantrum situation, but man, toddlers are funny, even when they’re not trying to be.

  3. such a great moment to capture … even if she’s lost it! My daughter (15 mo) seems to think she is 5. Or at least 2, like her older brothers. She doesn’t understand when she can’t have certain things, and when I offer her a substitute, she will either a) grab it from me and throw it fiercely in the other direction, or b) simple bat it out of my hand with precision I didn’t think a toddler could master.

The drama is already evident, and I think I’m in trouble!

  4. What a sweet heart!! Great way to start off your new year with Toddler-hood. It’s going to be fun and exciting..and sometimes frustrating and scary. Good luck and enjoy your little guy!!

  • Sometimes it’s like this, moms: You hand the camera to someone else, and you say exactly what you want them to capture, and you ask nicely that they please try to capture a flattering angle, but most of all that they just take a TON OF SHOTS because you are more likely to love one if there are many to choose from. You take control and you tell people, “Hey! I need a picture with the baby. So here’s the camera.” And you don’t delete the shots, even if you think you hate all of them, ok? You can’t rely on someone else to give this gift to you. You give it to yourself. And your baby. You both deserve it. Photos are a life treasure that are guaranteed to appreciate in value as time goes on. They are the most sound investment you can ever make. So invest. Be intentional.
  • Genuinely baffling. Their dad has shown them from the minute they were born that he’s more than capable of all the parenting things. And yet they continue to forget he functions the same way I do. #thingsparentsactuallysay

  • There are so many fresh faces here, and I’m thrilled! My 15 month old is currently napping ON ME so I thought I’d use this as an opportunity to introduce myself and share more about Baby Rabies to you newcomers. 🤗 👋🏻 I’m Jill Krause, mom of 4 (nearly 10 year old son Kendall, 7 year old daughter Leyna, 4.5 year old son Lowell- we call him LoLo a lot, and 15 month old son Wallace). I’m married to Scott, my college sweetheart- MIZZOU 🐯 👶

Baby Rabies is what happens when your baby fever is incurable. And that’s what happened to me 11 years ago when I bought BabyRabies.com and decided to blog anonymously about my secret and sudden obsession with conceiving my first baby. 👬🤱 The logo is a play on a positive pregnancy test, but we love and embrace all kinds of families and caregivers around here, no matter how they came together. 💖

It is my greatest wish that this space is inclusive and supportive and uplifting, without feeling sanctimonious or void of humor. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We are always open to improving ourselves, but perfection is never the goal. 🏞

I’m currently traveling the country in an RV with my husband and 4 kids. We sold our dream house last year to find our dream life. We are documenting that at @happy.loud.life So if you see pictures pop up and wonder why we spend so much time in an RV or why our baby has, like, 4 outfits, or why we seem to go on a ton of vacations- that’s why. 😆 ❓

Are you new here? I’d love if you’d introduce yourself below! ✨
