I signed up for a year-long photo challenge with fellow Clickin’ Moms members where each month we post one “The Way I See” picture on an assigned topic. January was New Beginnings.

I had a plan all along to get a picture of Leyna walking, beginning her journey into toddlerhood.

The problem? Now that she’s walking, she’s much harder to photograph, especially since she takes off for my camera every time she sees it (and my phone, and my wallet, and my credit cards).

I set her in the beautiful morning light of our living room this morning for one last attempt, and yet again, she wouldn’t cooperate and was more interested in French kissing my camera lens (how cute are open mouth baby kisses?). I said no, took the camera away, and an epic tantrum ensued. The was no soothing her, no distracting, she banged her head, hands and feet against the floor.

Sooo…. as I was saying… The Way I See New Beginnings? How’s this for the beginning of toddlerhood? A pretty good description, I think.

This was processed with Emma Wood Photography’s Chocolate Drama B&W preset for Lightroom. I freaking LOVE it. I’m a little obsessed with it, actually, and she has it on her blog as a FREE download. I mean, how awesome is that? Seriously, if you have Lightroom, you should head over and download it. Be sure to tell her thank you and that I sent you!

Now I’m passing the link torch onto Clickin’ Mom Amanda. Head over to see how she views new beginnings!

  1. Tantrum aside, that is a gorgeous photo. I am getting jealous of all these lightroom techniques. I need to buy it but it’s just not in the budget right now. SAD FACE.

  2. I love the photo. LOVE! I’m hoping I can make a case to get a fancy pants camera and get back into photography as LWM takes off more. (I have a DSLR from college. It uses film. Remember that?) And the tantrum, please tell me that you giggle when your kids get that tantrum cry face. Because sometimes, the hubs and I can’t help but giggle. It doesn’t help the tantrum situation, but man, toddlers are funny, even when they’re not trying to be.

  3. such a great moment to capture … even if she’s lost it! My daughter (15 mo) seems to think she is 5. Or at least 2, like her older brothers. She doesn’t understand when she can’t have certain things, and when I offer her a substitute, she will either a) grab it from me and throw it fiercely in the other direction, or b) simple bat it out of my hand with precision I didn’t think a toddler could master.

The drama is already evident, and I think I’m in trouble!

  4. What a sweet heart!! Great way to start off your new year with Toddler-hood. It’s going to be fun and exciting..and sometimes frustrating and scary. Good luck and enjoy your little guy!!

  • Does bedtime change during the summer? Or does it stay the same all year? 🌙
  • We didn’t find any banana slugs on this 2 mile loop trail, but it did gift us with a bench. Calling that a win! #mothernurturemothernature
  • You don’t get paid for this. You do it because you’re a dad, and that’s just what dads do. #happyfathersday2018
  • So grateful to have a partner who picks up what I drop, kisses the booboos I miss, reads the bedtime stories I have to work through, and loves our kids in ways I aspire to. Happy Fathers Day to him and all the dads who are doing this exhausting and exhilarating thing called parenthood 💖
  • It’s estimated 2,000 children (some as young as one) have been taken from their parents at our border in the last 6 weeks alone. MANY of these families are asylum seekers and it is not illegal to seek asylum. They left horrific conditions not because they want to break our laws or lose their children but because they want their children to live. Please join me and my friends from all over the political spectrum to oppose this unnecessary and cruel mandate that is traumatizing children and ripping families apart with no clear plan or guarantee for reunification. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue- it’s a HUMAN issue. I can not stay silent about this. My latest blog post has links and a script you can read to your Rep & Senators when you call them. It’s so easy to DO SOMETHING. Check out my FB Live to watch me call my reps. #familiesbelongtogether
  • Danger Baby keeps earning his nickname, insisting on climbing things and running off and generally loving all things that are dangerous to babies. We are in a different city nearly every week these days, and it’s SO important that we know not only where the nearest ER is, but if it’s actually equipped to take care of babies and small children. Did you know that not all are?? I’ve teamed up with @rbabyfoundation to tell you all about their life saving, free app — Find ER Now — that will tell you where the closest ER is to you, and with the .99 cent upgrade, it will tell you which ones are equipped to treat your littles. I’m so honored to work with them. PLEASE check out my stories for more info, including a link to download the app. #sponsored #rbabyfoundation #findernow

  • Lately Wallace has been jumping right in to everything we’re doing. He wants to watch movies with us, play ball, wrestle, eat Takis 🤣 and everything else. I forgot how much I love this stage. I think maybe it gets more fun the more kids you have. You really can not tell him he’s not a big kid. He’s not having any of that nonsense. (And yeah, he loves him some spicy Takis.) (This is totally one of those pics that looks like they swapped legs!)
