4moms mamaRoo Review & Giveaway

In the beginning, before she settled into her routine, before I FINALLY began to believe she’s a “good baby,” we had some rough nights. Mainly, her days and nights were mixed up and we discovered that, like her brother, she had to be bounced to sleep. Not rocked, not soothed by the “calming vibrations” of her bouncy chair, but straight up (literally up and down) BOUNCED to sleep.

And so, like the one that came before her, we would lay awake at night, bouncy chair between us in bed, taking turns… bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, zzzzzzz…. huh?? wha?? I’m awake, I’m awake, shhhhhh, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, zzzzz….

And on. And on.

One particularly exhausting night as I tried to keep myself awake enough to maintain a steady enough bounce to send her off into dreamland, I fantasized of this fantastic product I’d seen in the baby store months prior. A product I’d, admittedly, declared to be “excessive” before having her. I was dreaming of the mamaRoo by 4moms. Suddenly, I saw it in a new light. I remembered it’s motions, unlike a swing, were up and down, not back and forth and not side to side. I wanted it more than a turtle cheesecake with a bottle of wine on the side, and it no longer seemed excessive to me.

I was fortunate to receive one to review (sent to me at no cost by 4moms) shortly after I sent out a few inquisitive, slightly desperate tweets in the wee hours of the morning. We’ve been using it for about 2 months now, and it’s made a nice addition to our home, though I must say it never has bounced her to sleep like I was hoping. That said, it wasn’t a huge issue. She started sleeping through the night around the time we received it, and it has been a nice alternative to our swing.

What I love:

1. It plugs in! That may seem like a silly thing to love, but our swing eats batteries like crazy. I love that this thing plugs in.

2. It looks great. The mamaRoo doesn’t scream “baby in the house!” when you see it. In fact, our’s sort of just blends in with the background of our house.

3. You can position it to sit baby more upright as they get older. It’s great for Leyna now. She’s eye to eye with Kendall when she sits in it.

4. There are so many combos of movements and speeds and noises (yeah, it plays different noises, too!). I fiddled with it to find the right rhythm for Leyna. She’s usually happiest when it’s set to the kangaroo motion at full speed with the airplane sound playing.

5. It connects to an MP3 player. We played some Rockabye tunes for her on it that she seemed to enjoy jamming out to. This thing definitely has a high-tech edge.

Some drawbacks:
1. Unfortunately, I just don’t think it moves fast enough to calm my babies and put them to sleep. Just like with Kendall, Leyna prefers to be vigorously and quickly bounced, so I can’t put her in the mamaRoo when she’s fussy, expecting it to help soothe her. However, she will happily sit in it while I get a load of dishes done or get Kendall ready for school if she’s already in a pretty good/not sleepy mood.

2. The fabric, while washable and easy to detach and re-attach, is not as soft as I’d like it. On one hand, I know that it’s very easy to clean and durable, but on the other, it would be nice if it were softer. Not a huge deal, though. I’ve laid soft, thin blankets on top of the seat before placing Leyna in it and that seemed to work great.

3. I would love to see a mirror of some sort on the detachable mobile. Leyna’s been fascinated by mirrors for the last month and she loves gazing at the one at the top of her swing. She doesn’t seem all that into the colorful balls on the mamaRoo.

All in all, though, not a bad piece of baby stuff at all. I’m very happy we have it, even if just to use it for enough time every day to get dishes done. I take back my “excessive” comment.

  1. I hadn’t heard of these yet- what an awesome idea! The Black/Black one would fit perfectly in my living room. Do I submit another comment for the other options? (if I do 2, 3, 4, or 5) Thanks for the opportunity! πŸ™‚

  2. Wow, this looks amazing! I really like the green/chocolate color. Thanks for the giveaway. πŸ™‚

  3. Kendal Barriere on

The Orange/Charcoal MamaRoo would fit perfectly in our living room! πŸ™‚

  4. What a cool product! With a baby on the way, this would be awesome:-) I really like the orange/charcoal combo.

  5. The orange would work perfectly in our baby’s room! What an awesome giveaway. We’re expecting our first in about a month and haven’t bought a swing or anything of that nature, so this would be great!

  6. I’m loving the orange and green fabrics, but I’d probably pick the red one to match my home best. Very trendy looking!

  7. I love the black, I need this product, my 7 week old doesn’t nap anywhere but in my arms as I bounce her

  8. Ooh I love the green and chocolate, but the silver would probably look better in my house πŸ™‚

  9. Drew too was a bouncer and I had dreamed of inventing something that would replicate me bouncing on a giant ball for hours. Everyone in my family at some point in time bounced drew on that damn ball. I was so excited (and a little disappointed) that someone had “stolen” my idea and made it a reality. Having said that we just put the chair together a few days ago and I must admit I was a little disappointed. Though, I am given it the benifit of doubt since I have to baby yet…I found all the settings to be very similar and like you said, kind of slow. I just pray she’s going to be an easier baby and it will suffice.

  10. I really like the silver mamaroo! It doesn’t necessarily go with my house, but I like it best πŸ™‚

  11. I have to say i LOVE the pink and brown, but for hopes of a second child that will hopefully be a boy… i prefer the green and chocolate!

  12. Liked you on FB (of course) and would love a black one for my house. Baby #2 is on the way and this would be perfect!

  13. I’m expecting Baby #2 in June and think this will be a lifesaver! The black would go great with my house!

  14. i’ve been eyeing the mamaroo. we haven’t purchased any sort of swing/bouncer/etc for baby and i keep wondering if the mamaroo is worth the investment! i’d love to win one πŸ™‚ I like the silver/charcoal one best!

  15. And I can’t leave out the red/charcoal color combination – I also became a 4moms insider! THanks for the chance to win!

  16. I like all the colors! But I would probably go with the Black/Black combo to match our house πŸ™‚

  17. My sister NEEDS this for her baby. So if I were to win, I’d probably pick the green or the red, because those are the only two that would go well with both our homes. We share.

  18. I love the silver/charcoal one, it is great with our decor and unisex in color. I would love the pink one, but I cant cross my fingers for a girl (although deep inside I am a little)

  19. The green mamaroo would be awesome in my house. I have been wanting one of these so bad for Baby #2 (due in September).

  20. Love the black/black. What a great product. This is the only thing that I don’t have from my first preganacy that I think I’ll really need. It looks awesome.

  21. Apparently I’d really like to have this thing b/c I became and insider for 4moms as well!

  22. LOVE the green and chocolate one!!!

My littlest guy is now 4 months, so while HE wouldn’t get much use out of it, my sister-in-law is due in July and I would LOVE to be able to gift this to her. She’s gone through soooo much in the past 5 years (multiple surgeries, IVF, etc.), and is FINALLY pregnant with a baby girl!! She deserves it more than I do! πŸ™‚

  23. I just visited the 4moms website and I love the red/charcoal one. It would look great in my light blue/red playroom! Thanks for the review. I’d never heard of this product before πŸ™‚

  24. I think I would go with the green and chocolate. πŸ™‚ I have loved it since I heard about it months ago. I guess, technically, I can’t love it since I have never used it – but would LOVE to have one! Colicky babies are no fun and our first was that way. Let’s hope #2, isn’t as bad. πŸ™

  25. I like the pink or green, but Husband would strongly prefer the black one, so we’ll compromise: silver!

  26. The green/chocolate or the red one would look great in my house! Would have loved to have one of these when my daughter was born – she was a “difficult” baby.

  27. I liked 4moms on Facebook πŸ™‚
I really really like the solid black one and hope I can add it to my nursery that’s slowly coming together

  28. Sadly, what worked miracles for Ella – the Amby baby hammock – is no longer being made. The more the kid fidgets, the more it bounces.

Glad for you that you are getting a nice perk from all the time you put into the blog. πŸ™‚

  29. Even though I love the fun, bright color options, I like the silver/charcoal model for my house!

  30. Want to win this for my bestie, and then have her give it to me if (when) I have a second baby. So I’m going with the grey/silver so it’s gender neutral.

  31. I liked br on facebook! Dif email though (should have mentioned that on the 4moms facebook comment above too).

  32. I love the green/chocolate combo. This would be a great addition to have when baby #3 makes an arrival in October.

  33. I like the solid black. It would be perfect for my baby boy due in about 4 weeks. πŸ™‚

  34. I like 4Moms and Baby Rabies on Facebook! A Silver and Charcoal MamaRoo would look fabulous in our home. I’m sure our new arrival in July would LOVE it! We’ve had our eye on one for months and have registered for it at Buy Buy Baby.

Also, quite excited about the Origami! A stroller that’s power folding – great idea!

  35. I liked 4moms on facebook!
The silver/charcoal one would look best in our home. πŸ™‚

  36. Pink & chocolate would be my pick! (What can I say, I have 3 girls, pink is a staple over here.) I liked Baby Rabies & 4Moms on FB. πŸ™‚

I am sold on the car ride motion–genius!

  37. The color choices are stressing me out! They’re all so pretty I don’t know which one to pick (because, you know, I *AM* going to win this thing…ha!). OK, I go with pink!

  38. The orange/charcoal color would look great in our tiny NYC apartment! we are expecting our first baby (boy) in may. this seems like a great product! thank you for the great giveaway.

  39. The green/chocolate would definitely look fabulous in our house! Thanks for a great giveaway & I will definitely follow BabyRabies on fb once I log back in on Easter (I gave it up for Lent)!

  40. I’m expecting our first in 18 weeks (ahhh), and this would be a great addition to our growing stash of baby stuff! I like the chocolate/green fabric to match our home and to keep it gender neutral. Thanks for hosting a great giveaway!

  41. The orange would be perfect in our home! It’s one of the accent colors in his bright green nursery!

  42. I love the silver/charcoal mamaRoo. I’m due with our first baby on Monday (though I feel I’m totally going late so make my due date and pick me! πŸ™‚ ) and we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl so the silver/charcoal one is the one I’d pick.

  43. Can I say just how FREAKING EXCITED I would be to win this? I’d about pee myself. I wanted one so bad for Micah but alas, I had to buy a crib instead. Dammit.

I really want the black one. It will blend well with our black (child friendly!) couch and coffee table.

  44. I would love a black mamaroo. I think the green/chocolate is cool too. Gender neutral colors and a really cool concept.

  45. Ohhh, I just DROOL over the MamaRoo! I would pick pink and brown – the perfect match to my baby girl’s room!! Thanks for this giveaway!

  46. I love all the color combos! I guess if I had to narrow it down I would choose the green and brown. Hmmm…maybe the silver and charcoal. They look awesome!!
