And be pregnant when we arrive!
Remember how I had a chemical pregnancy last month? Well, the nurse advised that maybe we take a cycle off, but, we sort of didn’t. I mean, I really wouldn’t have known all that to be any different from a regular period had I not tested early, and I just didn’t see the point of waiting. That being said, we didn’t “try”, but I can’t say that we prevented, if that makes sense.
I really didn’t think it would happen again right away, but ultimately I’m glad it did, and very thankful. Yes, even if that meant being nearly 6 weeks pregnant when we boarded a plane to the land of all things WINE. (And yes, I did drink a bit while we were there… shared a few tastings, a 1/2 glass a couple nights with dinner… an amount Scott and I were both comfortable with).
I got a positive test a week and a half before we left, and it has been SO HARD to keep it from you all! Sorry for all the pointless posts around here lately and the radio silence on Twitter. Every single thing that’s running through my mind has to do with pregnancy, pregnancy with a toddler, morning sickness, exhaustion, my INSANE sense of smell, and anything else that would blow my cover. Since this blog is now read by just about everyone close to us on this side of the computer screen, I had to make sure some found out from us and not this blog, and I didn’t want to jump the gun with that, either.
It’s still pretty early, but I’m only allowing myself to think positive thoughts and embrace this pregnancy. I’m trying not to worry away the first 1/2 like I did last time around. As of today, I’m 7 weeks and feeling VERY pregnant. This whole first trimester thing with a toddler is going to be really interesting. I thought I would just have the TV babysit him for me while I lay on the couch and nibble on crackers until I read this guilt trip. Guess I need to get to work training the dogs to entertain, or just come to terms with the fact that he might be socially awkward in the future.
I’m due, based on my own calculations, around December 22nd, making this kid doubly prone for therapy at a later date. Not only will he/she have to survive the trauma of having a birthday so close to Christmas, which I’m told can be devastating, but if we have 3 like we plan, he/she will be the middle child. That, according to my sister circa age 16, is just about the worst thing you can ever to do a child ever, ever, ever. (She’s totally normal now. Love you, Kelly!)
WHEW! It feels SO good to get that out.
I promise to work on the Sonoma vacay recap soon, now that you all will understand why we didn’t hit up a hundred wineries and instead pigged out the entire time.
7 weeks pregnant

Yay! Congratulations!
Congratulations! That is awesome! We went to Napa in March of 09 when I was 10 weeks pregnant and it was torture not being able to partake in all of the deliciousness. I’ve made my husband promise to take me back when I can consume!
Ahh! Congratulations!!
Yay! Congratulations!
Congratulations, Jill!
Congratulations!! I am so excited for you. I haven’t “come out” yet, but I am about 5 1/2 weeks right now (EDD 1/2/11). It will probably be a Christmas baby with my luck, poor child.
Yay! Congrats to you!
Congrats Jill, I’m so happy for you guys!
Congratulations!
December 22nd is my wedding Anniversary so YAY!
Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy 🙂
Congrats!!!!
OMG, CONGRATS!!! That is wonderful, wonderful news!
I had a chemical pregnancy in ’08 right before I got pregnant with Annabelle. Sucks, but the doc told us we didn’t need to wait to TTC next cycle. So I think you did the right thing! 🙂
that’s great! congrats!
Holy shit, Congratulations!!! I’m so glad you still tasted the wine!
Happy & Healthy 9 months to you!!!!!
YAY! Congrats!
Congrats, that’s fantastic. I got pregnant the month following a chemical pregnancy as well, it’s a little shocking, but of course very exciting! Hope the morning sickness passes very quickly!
Congrats! This is my first time commenting but I’ve been reading for a while. Having a birthday around Christmas isn’t sooo bad, mine is Dec. 21, and other than a LOT of double gifting from friends and birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper it’s ok. Good luck and h&h 9 months 🙂
Totally happy for you!
Congrats! that is awesome!
Being pregnant with a toddler is hard, having a newborn with a toddler is hard…but when you see them together, you forget about all the stuff that sucks and are so in love and amazed with them.
good luck!
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Very happy for you and your family!
Still looking froward to your vacation post. 🙂
Yay! Congratulations! Kendall and my son, Brock, are about a week apart and I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with another little boy! Pregnancy is SO much harder the second time around! Lol!
Congrats!
My brother’s birthday is December 23rd and he not only never got combined gifts but still gets the BEST presents (he’s 17 now), I think because people assume he gets screwed and try to compensate.
Holy Cow Balls! Congrats! Couldn’t be happier for you and your family. I have a Dec. 20th birthday and celebrated my 1/2 in June. Just a thought.
I’m so glad it’s out now!!! I almost blew your cover about a thousand times on Twitter by sheer accident. I even had to erase crap I was about to say. (this is a lesson in Don’t-Tell-Gina-Things-Cuz-She-Has-A-Big-Mouth.)
I wish I was right there with you, but I just sat down after getting my 6000th BFN (it’s early to test, I’m only 11DPO, but I know it hasn’t happened again this month.) On the bright side, I’ll probably get to drink all the alcohol you won’t get to drink at BlogHer! HA! 🙂
Congrats. May you not have a Christmas-Day baby.
CONGRATS! Christmas babies aren’t bad. My hubby is a week before x-mas and we make it a point to give him his own special party & not include it in any part of Christmas festivities.
The first trimester with a toddler is difficult but you’ll get through it. If K naps, nap with him. That’s what I did & it worked wonders!
Congrats, congrats, congrats!
Many congratulations! Pregnancy mixed with a toddler, and the subsequent life with a baby and preschooler, is a *completely* different animal than it is with just one. Much crazier, more difficult, and definitely more tiring…but my perspective is a lot healthier and I’m enjoying the second time around more. Looking forward to your insights over the coming months as an already-established mom. And I guess this means you get a do-over on your Sonoma trip in a few years, right?…
Congratulations!! Great news!!
Congrats!!! So exciting!!
YAY I am so happy for you!
Congratulations!!! I somehow was wondering if you were pregnant since we hadn’t heard all about the great pinot noirs and chardonnays!
I was still nursing when we were there last year, but I did taste some – hey, we thought he might sleep better 😉
I am pregnant right now with my second (13 weeks) and my son is almost 16 months, which surely isn’t as hard as 2 years! I definitely recommend napping when he does – that got me through the day!
H&H 9 months!!! 🙂
Congrats!!!
Yay!! Congrats Jill!! Can’t wait to hear all about this new journey 🙂
Congratulations !!!
Congrats Jill! I am looking forward to reading your adventures with pregnancy and a toddler 🙂
Congrats!! How exciting!!
Congrats Jill! It looks like we are almost exactly the same amount of pregnant (my very tentative due date is actually Christmas Day!) and I’m also doing it with a toddler this time around.
You’re better at keeping secrets than I am though, since I called my mom only about 30 seconds before announcing it on the internet.
Congrats to you Suzanne!
Congrats! This totally means you have to go back to your “motherland” again!
H&H 9 months to you!
Ohhhh congratulations! I just told my husband and said that I would have probably waited until we got to sonoma to start trying again (so that I could drink a ton)…and he called me on it and said that I totally wouldn’t have been able to wait (he was right) 😉
So happy it happened so quickly for you…can’t wait to read about everything + a toddler. I love that you are a year or two ahead of me in this whole baby/life thing so I can read about it first!
Congratulations!! And please… find me a pregnant mama that hasn’t let her 2 year old watch HOURS of tv some days! Jude seems unaffected thus far, ha! It can be tough in the early days of pregnancy with a toddler running around, but it goes wayyyyy faster the 2nd time around!
So excited for ya!
congrats!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am so happy for you!
congratulations!!! i already love reading your adventures with a slightly older toddler than i have and now i look forward to reading about you being in a similar situation to me…i am 4 months pregnant and have a 13 month old! i agree with kali, it goes much faster second time around. once i got past the sickness, well, i often forget i’m pregnant because i’m just so busy with the other one. but i am waaaay more over emotional this pregnancy. wishing you all the best!
YAY! Congrats! I am also preggo and have a toddler! LOL Are we all crazy?
I am currently 32 weeks along though with a 15 month old. Let’s just say “thank goodness for grandma”!! 🙂
Just some words of advice:
– You WILL be dead tired no matter how much sleep you get
– You will be reminiscing about how great your first pregnancy was compared to this one (and you’ll probably tell people that if you had your second pregnancy first, you wouldn’t have done it again…)
– Some days you will think you should go to the hospital because you can barely walk due to “normal” ligament stretching.
🙂
I asked my ob/gyn about most of that stuff yesterday and she said “yep, it’s all normal for the second pregnancy!” (She herself is pregnant for the 2nd time)
So Congrats again! And just be warned that this one will be NOTHING like the last. 😉
Yippie!! You’ll do fine w/ the pregnancy and Kendall 🙂 You’ll just get really good at vomiting standing up and falling asleep FAST. I had two kids in 15 months, 3 in 5 years total and I do NOT have your energy and somehow we got through it. (I don’t recommend doing it this way!) Also have a Christmas B-day and it has never bothered me a bit. No worries! Congrats and enjoy!! Oh, and you’ll have so so so much fun watching Kendall touch your belly!!
Jill…
Soooooo happy for you!!!!! I was preggers when my son was 3. It wasn’t all bad. I think I would have been exhausted no matter what. My daughter weighed in at 9lbs 50z at birth!!!! I had her in Sept. So I lugged her around through the heat of all summer! Enjoy it, it goes sooo fast.
ahhhhh so excited for you!! congrats Jill!!
Yay, congratulations!! So happy for you 🙂
Congrats!
I went through pregnancy with a 2 year old and it was a bit of an adjustment, but ended up not being as bad as I’d expected. Good luck!
Congrats Jill!!!
SO happy for you guys! Congrats!! <3
Yay!!! Congrats, Jill. So happy for you. Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy! 🙂
Congratulations!!!
When we were childless, we booked a tour of Italy and 1 month later found out we were expecting (it was a total surprise). I was 19 weeks pregnant and we were on a tour of Italy (where wine comes with dinner and you have to request water). I “tasted” the wine because you can’t be in Italy and not!
Congrats!
Congrats Jill! Kendall and my little girl Hannah are just a few days apart in age (Hannah turned two on May 3rd) and I’m pregnant again and due November 2nd. Kind of exciting to hear we’ll be going through all the same things together again this time! Congrats and best of luck with the next 9 months!
Haha! Hubby and I shared a laugh last night about your good fortune but bad timing on the wine trip. 😉 Then we promptly got to work on trying to make baby #2 as well. (Too much information!?!)
Wow congrats! Did not see that coming! (should have I suppose!) Looking forward to hearing how your pregnancy goes this time!
Congrats to all of you!! and if you need TV to babysit while you feel like yacking your brains out- do it. K will certainly not be scarred for life. and its far more important for mommy to feel better than it is for you to stress over entertaining him while you are having all day sickness.
Congrats Jill!! I’m very excited for you guys!
Congratulations, Jill! I am so very excited for you guys!
And can I say how excited I am for more pregnancy posts?! That’s how you hooked me in the beginning!
Congrats! I’m a frequent reader but do not comment frequently 🙂 My birthday is December 30th – Sister’s is the 19th – Husband’s is the 11th – In-laws are both the 17th.. you get the idea 😉 No lasting damage here 🙂 Very exciting!
Yay! Congrats!
I am so excited for you! YAY BABIES!
Congrats!!! Haha I read that article on Yahoo about the TV watching as well. It’s a wonder to me that they’re able to keep studies going and people participating in them for that long.
oh, wow! congrats; so exciting!
my husband was just talking about his baby rabies yesterday (funny, right?)… but we just have to wait for a bit…
can’t wait for all the updates!
Congrats! Too funny, I’m pregnant too and am due on Dec. 20 with our 2nd baby. It’s so not fun to be green and super tired and chasing around another kid but I guess we’ll have to just keep on truckin!
Contratulations! I just hit the 7 week mark too. I love your blog and can’t wait to see how things are going for you.
Congrats Jill! I’m right there with you, EDD on our second one is in October. Pregnancy the second time around with a 2-year old is certainly different, I’m looking forward to hearing you chronicle your experience. Hope you feel better soon!
HUGE congrats and best wishes!!
yay!! I’m so happy for you!! can’t wait to hear how things go for you since I’m planning to be pregnant again when my baby is about kendall’s age. congratulations!!!!
You all are so sweet! Thank you so much for all the well wishes. Can’t wait to share this second go round with you all.
Congratulations!! Kendall will make an awesome big brother! I bet he can’t wait to show his little brother or sister his new fun nose picking trick!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!
So excited for ya’ll. 😀
Yeah! I’m so happy that you are pregnant with a little one…also, I’m so excited that you will be enduring the same trials that I will be. It’s nice to have a friend that will “suffer” with you: raising a newborn and toddler while trying to maintain your sanity!
Congratulations!!!
Oh my gosh, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
And good for you for still enjoying your trip to wine country 🙂
I’m so happy for you guy, Jill. Congratulations!
Congratulations!
COngrats! Just make sure to always celebrate his/her birthday as a separate event… my husband’s birthday is Dec.26th and he always got pumpkin pie instead of a birthday cake! (my MIL is looney all the way around, but still…)
OHMYFUCKINGGOD! CONGRATULATIONS!
Yes, yelling was necessary. That is great, Jill!
::jumps up and down::
YAYAYAYAYAY!
I was so excited I forgot to add that we are TTC#1 starting in June!
Congratulations! We’re trying for #2 also 🙂
Side note-I was due with my son on Christmas Day, but he decided to come a couple weeks early and was born on the 12th. My husband and I have talked to many friends and acquaintances with December birthdays and the best advice (we hope) is to make sure his birthday is celebrated separately from Christmas (duh) and maybe even throw in a “Special Day” in the summer for a party just because it is kind of unfair, but leave the choice completely up to them once they’re old enough to care 🙂
Congrats!!! That is such exciting news!!! Yeah, that 1st trimester with a toddler running around was really tough. Let’s just say, Zane watched ALOT of television during that time.
SOOOO excited for you! This just made my heart smile when I read it. Wishing you the best in the next 9 months!
Many congratulations! I’m so excited for you!
Congratulations! I am expecting my 2nd baby (actually 3rd since I have a full time 10 year old step-son) on August 1st. My daughter will be 2 May 17th.
I survived the 1st trimester, but I can tell you the third is looking much harder. I am already starting to swell and my energy is way down, wish me luck to the end. In the 3rd trimester of my first pregnancy I just came home from work and laid on the couch with my feet up until the next day.
On the Christmas birthday note…maybe make him/her a “pretend” birthday on some special date in the summer. Also, I know you wouldn’t, but PLEASE never wrap your kids presents in Christmas paper. I would hate to have a Christmas birthday too.
DOH! I did not just say my daughter’s birthday was May 17th…it’s May 18th. In my defense, her due date was May 17th.
One thing I can say about the second pregnancy…I felt VERY pregnant very early on. It’s was like my body when right back into it and knew exactly how to “be pregnant”.
Congratulations!!!! SO I guess this means when you said you’ll buy me a drink at blogher that you’ll only be buying LOL..
I’m so happy for you.. admittedly a bit jealous, but mostly very very happy!!
Congrats!!!! I have an almost 2 1/2 year old and I’m pregnant with #2 due in 3 weeks!!! Being pregnant with a toddler in the 1st trimester definitely kicked my @ss. The second trimester was much better, the third has been ok too but the last week had been tough! GDLK to you! Take it one day at a time and you’ll be just fine!!! As for December birthdays, my husband is December 20th and his brother is the 19th and they turned out just fine – at least we think!!! 😀
Congratulations! Happy & healthy nine months to you!
Congratulations!! Wonderful news.
Congrats! Hope you have a healthy and wonderful 9 months!
Oh Jill!!! I am soooo happy for you, girl. I am just now catching up on my blog reading after giving birth to BABY BOY #2 a week ago.
Now, take this with a grain of salt because I’m only 7 days into two under two, but I can tell you that my heart has just doubled in size. It’s amazing looking at the two beings that I created. I know you’ll feel the same. My fears just kind of melted away when we came home from the hospital and I saw my toddler give my newborn a kiss 😉
I wish you a h&h 9 months! Wine drinking can commence in January!
Awww! Congrats, Molly! That is so good to hear. I’m so happy for you! I hope it continues to go smoothly for you. I’m sure I’ll need lots of advice 🙂
OMG CONGRATS!! Everyone is pregnant!! What a happy day!! congrats congrats!! Yay!!
Wheee! Congrats! How exciting.
I also ended up wine-tasting near Santa Barbara (celebrating my mom’s bday) right when I got pregnant. Major bad timing! But I also partook in a little wine here and there. Eh, everything is totally OK at almost 31 weeks! And being pregnant with a toddler is hard during the 1st tri (with MS), but not as bad as I had feared. Pregnancy goes so much quicker when you don’t have every moment to obsess over it!
Late on the congratulations, but wanted to add my two cents on the whole near-Christmas birthday thing. My birthday is 12 days after Christmas (on January 6th, Epiphany, also a very important Catholic holiday). My parents always made the day special for me, but I still sometimes got the whole – both for Christmas and birthday gifts. My suggestion? Celebrate his/hers half-birthday, which would be sometime in late June depending on when he/she is born.
Congrats!!! Makes me almost want to start on #2, but no. I do not want two under two.
