I swear, the way I can maintain my sanity through the dozens of “uh-oh”s in a day is to remind myself of this little snipped I read once that said children at this age do things to see what will happen. They’re learning cause & effect (which actually sounds like loads of fun.) So, when he throws his EFFING yogurt off the table for the 90th time this week, all I can think is, I hope he’s learning about gravity.
Of course, this does not stop me from wanting to leave the house, clear out the bank account, take on a new name, and move to Mexico. But… it does get me through the day. 🙂
Okay, seriously you are too funny!! I love it!! Big Sister does not say uh-oh and neither did Big Brother at this age. Big Sister does tend to drop things out of her seat in the car and then ask for them back 100 times per minute when I am driving. She must say something similar to uh-oh now that I am thinking about it though because I keep saying “You threw it down, don’t give me that!!” But I am drawing a total blank on what she does say. I’ll have to pay attention tomorrow.
I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one that says, “It’s not an ‘Uh oh’ if you did it on PURPOSE.” My 18 month old is forever saying uh-oh, and yes, just like your chart, only a small number actually require an uh-oh!
“Uh Oh” was Piper’s first word. It is ADORABLE when she says it. It is the word she says the most frequently. We are constantly trying to correct her when she uses it improperly, like when she’s chosen to kick me and I say “Ow” and she says “Uh.Ooooh.” IT is no less adorable then, but yes, infuriating AND adorable all at the same time.
We feel like Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride: “I don’t think that word means what you think it means.”

Your pie chart kicks ass.
Stinkin’ funny!
Hold me, I’m scared.
(Also, I’m laughing.)
We say so much to my daughter “It is not Uh-Oh if it is on purpose” that now she says “Uh-Oh Purpose,” when she does something.
It could also mean, “Mommy needs to dye her hair.” My foster son used to point to my head and say, “Uh-oh” any time the grays started to show. 🙂
You need a “like” button on here…
So true!! I remind my 19 month old Uh Oh doesn’t make it OK.
