My new bundle of joy has arrived

It kept me up late last night just staring at it and holding it.  It’s so different than the one I already have, yet it seems easier.  It’s less fussy.  I don’t think I will spend as much time with the older one now.  This is my new love. My life seems complete now.  Yes, I am head over heels for my new laptop, my MacBook!

For years now I’ve been subjected to a Dell computer that almost drove me to insanity while wedding planning.  It just quit working one day, not even a year into owning it, in the thick of all the wedding planning chaos.  I had invitations to design and programs to print and that fucking piece of shit crapped out on us for no good reason.  And then I had to sit on hold for days on end with various men with thick Indian accents who kept insisting their name was Bob…all of them.  It took 2 months to get it back up, and that was with the freaking warranty!  Then my husband, seeing how much I wanted to pee on the Dell and then light it on fire, bought me a Toshiba laptop.  It was a nice gesture, but my bad luck with PCs followed and the laptop froze up shortly after the one year warranty was up.  We can’t even get it to start up anymore, even after spending half as much as the damn thing cost on various repairs.

After much back and forth, we finally came to the decision to pay the extra cash for a Mac.  My family is a Mac family.  I actually got the first MacBook (those really cool bubbly colored ones – I had orange) from my dad when I went off to college.  It still works, too!  However, it can’t hang on the information highway these days.  We also purchased every extended warranty available. So hopefully I will be blogging from this baby for a long time to come.

Of course, as soon as we got it out of the box and charged, I was just itching to sink my fingers into a good project, and I knew the perfect one.  I’ve been dying to put together a slideshow of the beautiful pictures our friends, the Regetis, took of Kendall at the hospital when he was only 12 hours old.  I’ve tried a few times on the PC, but there really was no easy way except to do it online with a membership to websites like One True Media.  So I kept putting it off.  Well, once I got the hang of how to get around a Mac again, I managed to get the slideshow together with less effort than it took me to locate the CD with the pictures on it (good Lord, our office needs an organization intervention).

Of course, now I must show it off.  It’s so sweet.  Little man was so small, yet I remember thinking at the time that he was so big!  He really was a big newborn, but man, I had no idea just how much the Kendall 10 months later would dwarf him.  So here it is….

Another big thank you to Amy and Srinu for the pictures!  We miss you guys.

Kendall is 10 months, 1 week and 6 days old.

  1. That is a beautiful slide show? What program did you use to make it? I got a Mac desktop a few weeks ago and I am still figuring it out. I am SO in love with it though!

  2. Thank you, everyone! I think I’ve watched it 10 times since last night. And, yes, I am LOVING this computer. Sucks that I had to wait so long for the right one, but I’m glad to have it now.

Amber, I made it in IPhoto. If you go to the button where you can create a folder, you can select slideshow and then select the pictures you want. Then you just pick the theme and the music and you’re all set. I’m sure there are better tutorials on the mac website. Have fun with it!

  3. BEAUTIFUL slide show, and awesome pictures! I’m a little miffed at the fact that you look SO amazing at what couldn’t have been more than 24 hours after you gave birth 🙂

Congrats on your new arrival, have fun!

  4. I LOVE mine too. I love the video! What a sweet little guy. I haven’t owned a non-Mac computer since I lived with my parents. I hated their computer and I have never had a single problem with our Macs. Congrats!!!

  5. I’ll never ever go back to a PC.

Oh and you can make slideshows in iDVD too! I’ve just now ventured into the land of iMovie and iDVD and I’m loving it!

    Macs rule!

  6. You did a great job!! The pictures are beautiful. I too am a little miffed like Stephanie at how amazing you looked after your delivery, which if I recall correctly was no piece of cake. I had a c-section and looked like I had been hit by a mack-truck. (BTW, my DS is only 6 days younger than yours!)

  7. You girls are too sweet 🙂 All I can say is that I was still on that new mom high. You know, the one that gets you through 3 days in the hospital with no sleep? Plus, I had just showered for the first time since Kendall was born and forced myself to put on some makeup, which all made me feel a little more human, if only for a little bit. But, please don’t be too miffed. These pics were taken only hours after my catheter mishap and my lady parts were begging for mercy.

  8. I just wanted to say that we, too, bought a Toshiba POS, and we had the same problems! Two new motherboards and a new hard drive later, it still doesn’t work. All we get is the startup page, then blue screen of death, rinse, repeat endlessly. I will never, ever again buy a toshiba lap top! Enjoy your macbook!

  9. WOW, that is such a wonderful slideshow. You are going to be SO happy you have it…and can play it at Kendall’s high school graduation party. ahhhhh!!!! 🙂 Ok, cart before the horse. Anyways, I hope I look as glowing as you did in those pics when my preggers day comes.

  10. OMG Jill- that is such a beautiful video. ugh. I want another one now….no, no I take that back….ugh, that is just so so precious.

    And congrats on the Mac!

  11. So precious! I have a program to do dvd I need to make one. That’s it..I’m bringing make-up to the hospital next time. I know you were in pain, but man, you look GREAT!

  12. I’m seething with jealousy that you got a MacBook! I’ve been wanting one, but until my laptop completely crashes, I really can’t get one.

Gorgeous slideshow. I can’t believe our babies were ever that small, and it did not help with my developing baby fever. Ugh!

  13. OMG…It makes me so nostalgic to see those baby blankets, and thinking back to when my daughter was just born. I definitely cried, and your son is beautiful!
