What is it with a mother’s constant concern that her child will catch the slightest chill? I used to think it was so ridiculous to see infants bundled from head to toe in 70 degree weather, and I’ve read in the baby books that you are only to dress them as warm as you yourself are dressed. Alas, now that I am a mother myself I find that I’m fighting the urge to throw an extra layer on him every time we leave the house. It seems that I am always hot (proven by my many fights with Scott over the thermostat), but what if Kendall doesn’t feel the same way?
For the past two months I’ve walked around Texas with a diaper bag that contained at all times one hooded sweater and a pair of woolly socks. Oh, and a blanket. I go nowhere without a blanket. Why, you may ask, would I carry such unnecessary things in the Texas heat? Because I was always afraid that we would be out and suddenly a big, windy storm would pass through or a freakish cold front that would cause the temps to suddenly nosedive. And what kind of mother would I be if I was unable to keep him warm?
Well, folks, today it paid off. We took off on a walk to grab lunch and a pack of eco-friendly disposable diapers from Target (we are travelling with my husband this week) and from the time we left our hotel to the time we got to the shopping center it DID feel like the temps took a nosedive. The wind picked up and the clouds blocked the sun. And as the goosebumps began popping up all over my legs I was busily dressing Kendall in that hooded sweater, woolly socks and throwing the blanket over him. My diaper bag was a couple pounds lighter, my kid was warm, and I was quite proud of myself.
4 and a half months and some change

I feel the same way…I am forever over-dressing my children, thinking they must be freezing, but when I end up taking them out of their car seats, they are sweating bullets. I’m trying to loosen up a bit, but as a mother I have this crazy need to bundle my boys up! You are not the only one!
Ha! Which diaper’s do you get at Target? I’m not sure they have eco-friendly disposables at Target in Austin, but I’m always looking for a reason to validate my (near daily) trips to Target. I’ve been using Nature’s Choice from HEB and like those when we’re not in CDs, but I’m always on the lookout for others. Thanks!
